Ike Ackerman - SI Student Athlete of the Week

Ike is my cousin's son and a freaky good athlete. He goes to Omaha Central and signed with Ohio to play DE for them (I think Nebraska will regret not pursuing him more...)

He recently broke the Nebraska state shotput record and is up for SI's National Boy's Athlete of the Week. Please take a second and give him a vote!

I watched a video of the shot put, it was incredibly impressive. Wasn’t the state record though, only the class A record. Hopefully we don’t have to regret it, let him tear it up there for a year or 2 and portal back home!

Do you think it would ever be a possibility? I’m sure he’s had contact with the coaching staff, like does he feel “disrespected” by the staff? Or is it something that would be a no brainer for him if the situation arose?

I talked with his mom about it at Christmas. He had meetings with Knighton quiet a bit last year. He took a visit last summer and Knighton pulled him into a meeting where he thought for sure that he was going to get offered. But instead they said that they wanted to see how his senior season went and then they would reevaluate.

But with the roster limitations rolling out, it became pretty clear to them that an offer wasn't going to come.

He is an only child and his parent's whole world - him going away for college is VERY hard on my cousin. She was getting pretty emotional when I was talking with her. A lot can change in a few years, but of the opportunity ever presented itself for him to come back home, I think they would jump at the opportunity. I could be wrong, but I didn't get the feeling that they felt like the staff burned them or that they were bitter.
