Devil's advocate...if we lose to Wisconsin & UW looks good we'll all say "well this team almost beat the #1 team in the country last week, so obviously they are better than mediocre Nebraska."

Your post kind of reminds me of the UCLAbia game week where Husker taters were going "this should be an easy NU win." Where if you had seen UCLAbia recently you knew they were much better than their record. And I think Wisconsin has top to bottom better players than UCLAbia.

So I'm not sure that Nebraska has any real edge over UW anywhere. Our LBs and DBs are trash. RB/WRs are trash. QB is playing poorly. And yeah we're at home, but our home field has been zero advantage for us since the CU game.

I actually think Wisconsin has better players than this Nebraska team, top to bottom, so I don't think there should be any expectation of a win by the fans. This is just another coin flip game but Nebraska is the guy who runs 23% success rate on heads v tails coin flips somehow.
I agree with this. It’s a fairly even matchup overall from a talent standpoint. I’d like to think our team has the resolve to push through the recent history and take the W but we’ll see. There’s no objective reason for anyone to think that this is a very probable win though.

Willing to hypothetically bet my mortgage this is 13-13 in the last 5 minutes. Absolutely brutal, ugly ass game. And Wisconsin turns back the clock to Paul Chryst and has one of those 4:57 minute, 83 yard, dick snapping drives where TW forgets how to run a defense and Wisconsin kicks a field goal to win. It's 83 yards because we throw a pick while driving down the field on a very promising drive, on a pick where once again one of our "stud" receivers gets his manhood taken on a 50/50 ball.

For what it's worth, I'm willing to non-hypothetically bet your mortgage.

My opinion of our talent has changed throughout the year. Before the season most people thought our WR corp was very talented. TBH I don't think they are. I think Neyor, Banks, Bonner are mediocre.

Also I think it's clear that our RBs just flat out aren't very good. Ditto for our DBs. The tater fans put 100% of the blame on their position coaches but let's be honest, there isn't an above avg player in those 3 position groups (minus Ceyair Wright).

That's been my biggest takeaway from 2024 - I way overestimated the talent level on this team. I watched the UW/Oregon game and Wisconsin has as much or more talent in their 2-deep. Also we can't stop the run anymore & Wisconsin can run it, so that's not good.

Tommi Hill when healthy is a good player. And I think Buford is a good safety being wasted at corner

Agreed - was just thinking of Hill as he is right this second. And he is not an above avg player this second (not his fault).

I expect Nebraska to lose. That's what they do. You're right in that regard. But you're incorrect about Wisconsin's "talent."

You're giving Wisconsin's Dline and linebackers way too much credit. The primary reason why Wiscy is struggling is because those two units are bottom 3 in the Big Ten. Fickel is getting a lot of shit for his offensive choices and woes, but Wisconsin is no longer dominant due to a substantial drop off in talent on defense.

As for nearly beating the #1 team in the country, think about this for a moment:

That trip to Wisconsin was Oregon's 8th straight game in 8 straight weeks. They are the only power conference program to not have a bye in the last 8 weeks. They played at Michigan 3 weeks ago and then had to travel back across the country again to play the Badgers at night. That's a really tall order. Says a lot more about the resilience of Oregon than Wisconsin.

i think Wisconsin definitely has a better secondary and more talent at RB. Their receivers are more of a wash with nebraska's receivers. If you tried to trade wideouts from Nebraska or Wisconsin to the rest of the Big Ten, 14 Big Ten coaches would say thanks but no thanks.

Is Raiola struggling? Absolutely. But Loecke is also struggling and his fans want to burn him in effigy.

One more thing: do you remember the Wisconsin game from last season? Tanner Mordecai really hurt Nebraska with his feet. He actually ran for 300+ yards on the season. The badgers are now missing that element.

If Wisconsin can suddenly find rushing yards from their QB,I think they will beat Nebraska again. But if Loeck can't run the ball, I think Nebraska will shut down their offense.

And of course the Huskers will lose it via turnovers or terrible special teams play. Ha

Nebraska has been leaky against the run vs some balanced offenses. White struggles vs the RPO game. That's his buggaboo.

Wisconsin is not balanced and you're kind of placing too much emphasis on that Oregon game.

Wisconsin was coming off a bye and Oregon was playing their 8th straight game in 8 straight weeks.

Plus, the Badgers didn't even run for 4 yards per carry vs Oregon. I like Wiscy's running back, but this isn't Wisconsin of old.

Nebraska was leading Ohio State in the 4th quarter, at Ohio State. But neither game is relevant.

Have we ruled this out?

Ian Holloway says Swindon Town’s ‘haunted’ training ground is damaging team’s chances

Football coaches are never short on offering mitigation when results turn against their team.

Injuries, refereeing decisions, and an unlucky bounce of the ball are all perennial favourites for coaches who find themselves under pressure but now another excuse could have joined them.

Ian Holloway, the manager of Swindon Town in League Two, English football’s fourth tier, has claimed that his team’s poor form can be explained by their training ground being haunted.

Holloway took charge of the club in October but had failed to collect a single point in the league since then until last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley.

Even that result had been preceded by a stroke of bad luck, as the club’s captain Ollie Clarke suffered an ankle injury in training.

That has led Holloway — one of England’s most experienced managers, having previously had spells at Blackpool, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers — to drastic measures as he seeks to improve Swindon’s fortunes.

“I’m going to try and cleanse the training ground area because people are telling me it’s haunted,” Holloway told BBC Radio Wiltshire. “There’s a graveyard somewhere near. Honestly, I’m not joking.

“I think our training ground is very close to an ancient burial site so I’m going to get my wife to come up and say sorry to all these people and hopefully we’ll have a bit more luck.”

This is not the first time hauntings — or variations on that theme — have been the talk of top-level football.

After Middlesbrough lost to Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-final of 1947, Wilf Mannion is reported to have claimed that the club’s Ayresome Park stadium had been cursed.

Leyton Orient, Birmingham City, and Derby County have also had to deal with rumours of jinxes afflicting their fortunes in the past.

Former Birmingham manager Barry Fry was widely reportedly to have urinated on all four corners of the pitch at St Andrew’s to ward off a reported curse on the club, although Holloway, 61, said that he would not be taking things that far.

“I don’t want to do what he did, but I’m going to get my wife to come up with her sage,” Holloway said. “I’ve done the Glastonbury stuff and the hail and welcome — great if you believe it. Do I? Really I’m not sure but I’m going to get it just to help because there’s some strange things happening.”

Swindon, who are 22nd in League Two, are next in action against Morecambe on Saturday.

Good point about Oregon being exhausted. Spot on.

I give zero credit for our close loss at OSU bc I truly believe the OSU players did not care about that game. The close Oregon loss may be in that category. Both are irrelevant as you point out.

I have marked myself safe from having said something stupid in that ancient thread.
