Huskers add a women's flag football team

My guess is it is a title 9 add to account for ratios changing with lowering male college enrollment.

Why does it take 3 years to get this going? 2028?

Couldn't you just start this in March?

We're in 2026, brother. Spring 2028 = 2027-2028 school year so it's not that far away. Doesn't seem too long to me.

Coach hired this summer, find the recruits to begin the following school year. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to try and hire a coach now, recruit & be ready for this next academic year.

A team of 30-40 maximum will off-set? Math isn't mathing, but I'm not aware of how enrollment plays in to Title IX. Treat me, and likely others, as Ioa fans when explaining.

Baseball, sport wide, just had a reduction in roster sports so I'm surprised that didn't have any impact.

Odds this is the most competitive football team on campus next year?

This will be one way to achieve my idea of getting around the 105.

My pitch was to have intramural fully padded football that was run by a hired coach that would run systems that the real team is running so when injuries occur you can backfill the 105

Looks like we are going the flag route and having our 106-150 identify as women…smart.

The way title 9 got implemented is dumb but they basically have to have equitable scholarship numbers which means the number of scholarships has to match the proportion of male and female students.

The gender difference in enrollment is now greater than it was when title 9 was signed it has just flipped to female enrollment being way higher than male.

Women now make up 58-60% of undergraduate enrollment now so technically we would need 6 women’s scholarships for every 4 men’s.

If we had to add an entire new womens team because enrollment percentages started widening, that's ridiculous.

If he had to add a women's team because we are adding scholarships to some men's sport, then maybe I can make sense of this.

We also do all sorts of things like packing extra practice players on the women’s basketball team to try and make the numbers work out.

We may have reached the point where we had to either cut a male sport or add a female sport.

There is no female equivalent to football numbers wise so it has always made things weird.

Maybe, but football has been around for longer than Title 9, wasn't that the 70s?

I actually thought that this rev-share and Title9 would lead to places cutting sports, but here we are adding a female flag-football team.

Weird times.
