Breaking Husker baseball comes in at 14

Eli Small and Cole Eaton are two kids at Elkhorn South - both heading to the SEC to play. That's who he's referencing. Both are pretty damn good players. Eaton has blown up on the national scene.

Correct, looking back it may have come across a little cryptic/douchey. My bad.

I don’t think you came off douchey. I just wanted to know names of kids. I like watching Nebraska kids do well and I’ll probably have to catch some Elk Horn South games now to watch them play.

Right there with you. I know Cole's dad so hopefully they have some games in Lincoln I can make it to.

What’s the story on him and what’s the profile?

Here's his perfect game profile.

This is more or less what happened from what I remember. He was being recruited by a lot of high level D1 schools going into his freshman year at Elk South which was back in 2020 right at the beginning of Covid. A bunch of schools on him doing the dance around offering, he wanted to go to NU, he knew Bolt from before his time at NU and also had worked out for Bolt before his freshman year in Lincoln. Bolt told him he wouldn't offer him until he saw him pitch in a high school game. Season got cancelled because of Covid. Bolt still wouldn't offer because he hadn't pitched in a high school game. Tennessee basically said we'll offer you right now if you commit right now. So he did and they basically told Bolt to pound sand.

Nationally, he was in the top couple hundred or so, I don't remember exactly. 3 star range. Last summer he went to a couple invitational tournaments and blew just about everybody away. Same thing with individual showcases. Testing numbers were all in the high ninetieth percentiles against historical data and tops at the showcases. He had something like the highest outfield velocity, fastest 10m or 60m time, and like the fourth highest fastball velocity out of everybody there. And my understanding is that these showcases are reserved for cream of the crop only. So him putting up a performance like that got his name in front of just about every MLB team and every other recruiter who hadn't heard of him. Now he's in the top 25 for his class and top 100 for that draft class like I mentioned earlier.

UTjr shits the bed his freshman year and the Huskers host a super-regional and the kid comes home the following year, via the portal.

I love happy endings……😎

. Time for these B1G teams to die.

I’m torn between making a “Blade Runner time to die” or a “Harry Potter come to die” meme.

Probably the wrong thread since it's related to the '23 class, but yea, two very high level recruits in Elkhorn and Bolt whiffed on both.

Tough to say he whiffed on either. Both just finished their 8th grade year when Bolt got hired (June 2019) and the focus wasn't on 2023 kids - it was getting the roster right for 2020 & 2021 as well as locking in the upperclassmen from the Nebraska high school classes. All one has to do is check out the recruiting focus during that time.

Tennessee basically said we'll offer you right now if you commit right now.

Tennessee got a huge gift by a local Omaha coach who was/is dialed in with one of the Vols assistants. This person had an agenda against Nebraska since Bolt and staff didn't give his nephew a look. Sour grapes, to the 9th degree & I don't blame the Eaton family for jumping all over the Tennessee offer. Great kid, great family, but bad timing for the Huskers with an outside variable. Had they not listened to this individual, I'm confident Cole would be a Husker commit by the end of spring before school finished.

I'm also confident Bolt would've played it differently with Cole Eaton, see Beau Peterson (class of 2026 commit) for reference.

Eli Small, blah - they had zero interest in Nebraska and have been SEC focus since Eli was in 6th or 7th grade.

Yea, Cole wanted to go to Nebraska to play for Bolt. Bolt told them he wouldn't offer until he played in a high school game despite having had him in Lincoln for a workout. That was in 2020 and baseball season was cancelled because of covid and that's about the time Tennessee came into the picture and offered him. Cole's a top 25 or 30 recruit now.

Yes, us baseball guys are aware of Cole. I found this thread from a family friend of theirs and a clarification was requested.

Vols were in the picture well before that and he committed in February, prior to covid canceling the spring season. It is what it is, definitely not a whiff.

Right, I knew they were in the picture well before he committed. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm going off of a conversation I had with a family member of his. I have no reason to make any of this up, this is what I was told.

Obviously I am an idiot and was wrong.

It’s still crazy to me how many people suck on frosts dick.

Today is Bolt’s turn and we’re not deflecting from it.

He’s got by far the worst team in school history and you can’t even blame the loss of all of the guys from last year for your team striking out 60% of the time today. Hitting is his speciality and his team can’t do it.

I’m sure he’ll say some cool stuff that people wanna hear though soon and all will be forgotten.

The amount of equity Will Bolt got for taking inherited talent and getting them to a slightly better spot than Erstad did is absolutely hilarious. You’d think he was Joe Torre in the middle of the Yankee run for the three-peat.
