Any recommendations you guys have, or experience with PitBoss?

Any tips for getting into smoking/pellet grilling?

Worked for a bbq food truck for several years in the summer and they use a Lang reverse smoker. Everything they make in that is so fucking good. The only thing I’d suggest besides that is to make sure there’s room/side addition that you can put your side dishes in.

I’ve had multiple pellet grills. They are all pretty much the same and for the most part retard proof.

'Pellet grill' is practically an oxymoron - they're really not a very good choice for grilling. I mean sure, some of them can get up to a somewhat hot temperature... if you don't mind watching the pellets in the hopper disappear before your eyes. They're okay-ish for smoking, but I'd choose literally any other type of grill for grilling.

If you want something you can set and forget, I'd get something with a PID and a more traditional fuel source, rather than a pellet smoker.

I would agree if that's the only thing you have. It's a smoker not a grill. I'll use the pellet grill to smoke and then finish on a gas. Could do the same thing with the Blackstone. Using any other type of smoker is borderline insanity. As @Cash68847 said they're for the most part retard proof which translates to being the most consistent and convenient of all smokers. If you'd rather make life more complicated by having to check on it more often then by all means get another kind of smoker.

FWIW, I use a Masterbuilt Gravity Series grill/smoker myself. It's a similar idea to pellet grills, with an electronic temperature controller that you can pretty much set and forget. The difference is that instead of pellets, you've got a hopper full of lump charcoal and wood, and it has no trouble cranking up to 700F! Char-Griller makes a similar model.

Yeah, I'd agree with this.

I've got a Pit Boss, it's good, I like it. Wifi, Bluetooth. But it's not great for grilling and getting a good sear on your steaks or whatever else you're trying to get a good sear on. Smoking wise, to me it puts out good product. Chops, Pork Butts, Ribs, Brisket, etc. All turn out really good for me. Smoked burgers are also pretty damn good. But I won't cook steaks on it. unless I'm doing a reverse sear.

I've got a vertical propane smoker, and I'll get a better smoke on the meat than the pellet smoker, but it's a pain the ass because of temperature control, and I like to set it and forget it.

I’ve seen it. Do you have to refill it on long cooks and is it as easy as a pellet grill where you set it and leave it?

And you still can’t beat a classic Weber kettle. Nothing better than burgers or steak on charcoal. And you can smoke on them. Little more work but it actually tastes like smoke and not dirty sawdust and glue
