im not saying mark banker was a great dc, or even a good dc.. but he sure as shit didnt deserve to get canned after that year

eichorst is a shit bag

I’ve thought about that from time to time.

Eichorst never sticks his freckled nose in places it didn’t belong and Banker stays. Does Riley get a Frost like runway with seasons like he had at Oregon State? He had a stretch there where he won 10, 9, 9, 8, and then it fell off a bit. I’d say it’s pretty likely he coaches at least five total, if not more. Eichorst forcing the hiring of Diaco was the push that ended up in the proverbial broken hip, hip, hoorah!

I’d say that would have been preferable to being Frosted, but who knows.

I feel like Belichick will be on here in the next decade.

I vacillate between thinking he’s going to set the Tar Heels up like an NFL franchise, attract great talent and surprise the shit out of all of us to thinking he’s kind of just looking for something to do, is a lot out of his element and with a 50 years his junior piece of ass leading him around by his partially deflated manhood, he’s going to flame out spectacularly.

Either could still be spot on.

We would of been mad that we didn't get Frost though.

About 75% of the fan base would have. Maybe a little bit more.

There was a sizable group hated him for originally committing to Stanford, another that hated him for what he ‘did’ to LP, and another group I guess knew him or knew enough stories about him to hate him, so it wasn’t going to be universal.

Still would have been interesting if Riley wins anything above 8 games his last year, even with the Eichorst/Diaco debacle. I’m not saying we wouldn’t fire an 8 or 9 win coach. We’d already done that. Twice.

Nailed it. I don’t get why he doesn’t just take all his money and his 20 year old gf and go enjoy his last decade or whatever. It’s very odd and is making me think flame out and take the buy out.

I’m of the same mind. He’s respected as a football coach to an extent that he has very, very few peers. He’s made more money than he could possibly spend in his remaining years. Buy an island or a couple thousand acres in the mountains and try to hump yourself to death.

This doesn’t seem that difficult a decision.

It would have been interesting but as soon as Frost started being a successful head coach the writing was already on the wall for Riley.

Riley might’ve put together a great season but he ran far too loose of a ship for it to ever work consistently. The big ten had too many coaches that were going to outclass him, like Ferentz owned Riley for that exact reason.

Just an awful hire out of left field & nobody can convince me that it wasn’t Wisconsin/Barry Alvarez behind it.
