For players, the portal is unkind to many.

I think its about 50% finding out the pasture isn't greener and about 50% coaches can now boot players out of the program via transferring and save face/not feel as bad vs. before forcing a transfer meant a kid would have to sit out 1 or 2 years.

Higher % of forced transfers are the kids still sitting in the portal with nobody to dance with.

Very true. Look at Jackson Hannah. He's going to Tennessee as a Preferred Walk-On. Basically lost his scholarship and the same goes for Will Honas.

If I was Frost I would be recruiting the Transfer Portal quite heavily, and here is my reasoning. You bring in a high school recruit and they don't play the first year or 2 they might transfer out before you have developed them. Not all high school players are ready for college ball. You bring in a Portal Transfer and if they transfer again they will have to sit out a season. How pissed would we be if we land a stud high school QB who becomes a star his Sophomore year, only to transfer to Bama for his JR year to get big NIL money? Chubba Purdy isn't going anywhere most likely if he has a big year his Soph year.

I think this is great. Cuts a lot of dead weight out of college football and raises the talent bar.

If a player puts his name in the transfer portal but decides to stay at their current school, can the school deny them and say that their spot was filled while their name was in the portal? If not, it's not that big of a risk putting your name in to see if you get any bites.

Yes, they are no longer guaranteed a scholarship. Payne entered the portal and came back and Nebraska let him keep his scholly, but they were not required to.
