Does anyone know his back story? Perhaps it’s a situation where he was homeless and Dean gave him a job out of the goodness of his heart. Would explain a lot like the alcoholism and how he dresses.

Nah. He told me once he lived around 80th and Van Dorn in something like a $350k house. I can look it up but don't feel like it. Does fairly well for himself for what he does and his "professional" appearance.
He's been at Rivals/Yahoo for quite a while.
He's just symbolic of the whole rivals network along with guys like Mike Farrell. He's his own character.
