This kind of thing makes me wonder if Disney is actually trying to sell it. Might be sensible to bring in some cash and let some other poor saps figure out how you will monetize this thing to pay for all the sports rights when no one under 50 has cable anymore.

This has been rumored for awhile now. ABC/ESPN isn’t the money maker it use to be. I think the plan was to sell after they renewed the contracts with football. Since they haven’t, I wonder if the offer wasn’t what they wanted and now are slashing to get it to the margins they actually want. In other words, I wonder if this is more of a move indicating they are keeping the networks. Major layoffs are typically done by the new owner.

Finally. Haven’t watched game day for years because of his dumbass.

They were bloated. NBA games don't need a play by play guy, 2 color commentators, a reporter, and 4 guys doing the halftime show. The bloat on some of these shows was ridiculous. Cut some of the roster and get back to reporting on sports.

That and they have too many channels to spread content across: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+. They repeat a lot of content but that's still a lot to support.

They were bloated & cutting the most expensive contracts but I think they’re going to lean into clicks with dumbass hot takes from Kendrick Perkins/other guys. JJ reddick is great but I guarantee they’ll eventually let him walk cuz he’s smart enough to be in demand elsewhere unlike dudes like Perkins or Tim Legler who’s only value is on ESPN. Dumb commentary that triggers fans is profitable apparently

Honestly, you just need like 1% who will say outrageous things that producers want to put in the A block
