Some things in the article related to style of defense got me thinking about Butler’s comments to the press about what he’s looking to do. Just sharing as I thought it was interesting and a potential reference point. ND shut down IU’s RPO last night. Would be okay with that.

We better get some better players too. Notre Dame has a lot more talent across the board.

I think that goes without saying and is the obvious caveat. Need to have guys there that can create disruption. Feels like for a while - even under White - we’ve been a defense that feasts on weaker teams and has to work overtime just to try to contain the better offenses. Rarely have asserted ourselves against upper level offenses.

Butler might be a good DC, but as of today I don’t see the talent to produce a top defense especially against the best teams in the BIG.

I agree, what I saw last night was a talent gap. You can scheme all you want, but you have to have the talent to make plays. We lacked it last year, we'll lack it next year.

Outside a couple good college d tackles this season our defense was average at best at the rest of the positions. I actually think White did a good job considering what he was working with.
