Dylan Raiola - Throwing With Anticipation

Can anyone explain to me why we didn't have Fidone running routes like this about 10 to 15 times per game? Its still maddening when I think about him running all those damn TE screens.

Because Satterfield was so convinced he was such a mismatch for anyone who’d cover him on the outside, sooner or later he’d prove that and bust one of those WR blocked TE screens for six.

Problem was, Fidone wasn’t great or even very good at making the first guy miss and our WR’s generally wouldn’t block well enough to support a six yard gain much less six points. Combine those two elements and he’s down on first contact around the LOS.

Rinse/Repeat.

‘We’ll bust it next time’.

This is really good stuff

Agreed and would also add it’s been a while since we’ve had a QB who could make the right read, release on time and put a ball in a smaller window.

Having said that, Raiola obviously lost some of that confidence later in the season and did less of this as it progressed. Hopefully a full off season and fall with Holgorsen in his ear and decent play calling will hit the reset button for him and bring more of the quick reads, releases and accurate throws.
