Duval needs to go next. My brother and I walked the OU sideline before and after the game and physically they just look 10 times better than our players. Obviously I was evident on the field.

I refuse to believe the players we have couldn't develop into decent football players. Ty Robinson was highly recruited and he looks big and slow. Duval might be able to get these guys to squat a fucking minivan, but they can't play football.

The new coach needs to throw a ton of money at OUs S&C coach, Jerry Schmidt. My dad went to High School with him at Harvard, Ne.

Schmidt has trained seven Heisman Trophy winners – Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Sam Bradford and Jason White at Oklahoma, Danny Wuerffel at Florida, Barry Sanders at Oklahoma State and Tim Brown at Notre Dame – and has worked with 30 NFL first-round selections, 66 first-team All-Americans and dozens of major award winners. He has also trained teams that played in six national championship games and has been a part of national championship squads at Oklahoma (2000), Florida (1996) and Notre Dame (1988).

This is probably true, but no strength coach was going to make Alex Conn, Michael Lynn etc a good lineman

Part of the issue is that after the issues the staff had with the '18 and '19 classes there was a subtle shift away from recruiting the twitchy sort of guys with high ceilings toward bigger guys and culture guys across the board. Now we've got a roster full of oafs that can barely move and a depth chart full of five star heart and 'culture'. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Duval didn't have the same class of athlete to work with that OUs dude did.

While I agree he will and should move on. Comparing OU to Nebraska isn’t the fault of Duval. They have a top 5 roster, Nebraska top 40.

Where your argument holds water is when you compare how Wisconsin, Minnesota and Cockeye look and move compared to Nebraska.

It's not just OU. Georgia Southern physically matched us. Duval obviously can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit, but he's done nothing to show any development on the field. I know Wyoming hated when he was there.

I've been fighting this battle on Nebraska message boards for almost three years. Mongos and taters love the dude though.
The crazy thing is I’ve heard ex players who played pro ball talk highly about Duval. I think the strength and conditioning coach has been the scape got for the past 20 years. I don’t care if and when he gets fired myself. I still think Frost was the main problem here.

Duvall will need to find a new job

However, Duvall as a S&C coach should be taking his cues from the coaching staff, not the other way around. The DL coach should know what he wants in his players and he asks Duvall how to get there with a conversation then execute. At this point it is solely on the coaching staff and Frost's inability to manage a staff, so I find it a bit hard to put a lot of blame of Duvall since there was zero accountability above him.

Yeah, I feel like a lot of what Duval gets blamed for is more a result of recruiting guys with awkward body types to begin with, like our overly-tall OL.

That said, Duval is probably better at the strength part of his job than the conditioning part.

I found it strange that fans of a school like Wyoming were celebrating when he left. Comments on articles said he made their players big and slow, not explosive. Seems to be a valid description of our current team.

Duval fooled a lot of people with strength testing numbers (through the roof) but the red flags appeared when we started looking at 40 times.

A white walk-on from Benkelman who never sees the field is our most athletic player for shits sake.

Duval can get guys to bench and squat. What he absolutely failed at was speed & agility development and flexibility.

A lot of strength guys lose sight of those two things. With our next strength coach, we need an assistant strength coach who oversees the speed and agility portion. A few teams have done this with a “feed the cats” approach and I believe, physiologically, it works.
