Can someone help me out here - is Rhule’s buyout if he takes another job only $5 million?? I know that if we fired him, it’s $50 million but if he leaves then PSU would only have to pay $5??? That makes zero sense to me
Welcome to the world of college coaching contracts.

No way in hell Raiola would follow Rhule to PSU imo. Raiola might transfer anyway, but I seriously doubt it would be PSU
I just posted that because of the Rhule commentary, it’s silly to think DR15 would follow him there

A Penn State name I haven’t seen floating around that I think could make a lot of sense is Fran Brown

- Jersey guy

- Elite recruiter

- SEC experience at UGA

- Elite culture guy

- Played and coached for Rhule while Kraft was Temple AD

- Could pay him $5-$7M which will help given the huge Franklin buyout
Franklins buyout wont be a big financial problem for them. It has offsets and Franklin will be sought after and will get another big time head coaching gig

You're correct, I think it is $6M
The buyout other teams pay for taking your coach is always way less than you pay your coach for letting him go
This is because it's about protecting the head coach's pay. If another team hires him, they're paying him. The university isn't out much from losing their coach - the buyout to the university basically pays for conducting a national search and buying out the contracts of assistant coaches that the outgoing coach doesn't take with him and the incoming coach doesn't want to keep.
It's 5M.

If Rhule leaves the list is
1. Lane Kiffin
2. Kalen DeBoer

And I think both a very realistic for Nebraska while many may say they aren’t.

I do wonder if DeBoer would leave Alabama for Nebraska. A chance to return to the Midwest and get out of Sabans shadow

Can Dannen pull him? He was the AD at Washington and DeBoer wouldn't sign a new contract during the 2023 season. Couple weeks after, he's gone to Alabama.

TBF to Dannen though, he was hired by UW in October 2023 so it's not like he had a lot of time with DeBoer.

That's common. Most coaches pay nothing or next to nothing if they leave

they could probably negotiate it down to a $20 million lump sum and remove the offset so he can do whatever he wants

Also it’ll be paid over multiple years and they’re going to be getting a $100m+ check once this PE deal closes.

A big IF, does Rhule take Uncle Donnie with him to PSU? Plus, would Dana want another crack at a head coaching gig again?

I think DeBoer knew Washington was going to be a bad fit in the B10 and unless you are USC or Oregon it is bad to be a west coast program! I’m still bullish in the NIL and revenue sharing era Nebraska can make hay.

Doboer signed a new 6 year deal with Washington in 2022 though and the word was he waited to hear “No” from us.

Doboer news came out at the same time Leopald signed his deal at KU. All the same week as we announced Rhule.
