I don't know that the backup is better, but when the starter isn't producing effectively than perhaps a backup can get things kickstarted for a bit.

Bottom line.... Our Offense in the Big 10 has been very very average. Take EJ out of the equation and we would be significantly below average.

TJ could fall flat on his face. And Im sure there's a fair amount of "I told you so" people who are hoping for just that. I contend that he might just be the spark that this offense needed. I think if our OL was much better, there's no doubt that DR is the guy. But with our sieve at the Tackle positions maybe having some mobility at qb can be more productive.

He has mobility and DC's do have to contend with his ability to scramble and get yards off of the zone game. With DR, as a DC you don't have to do either.

No one is saying that TJ is going to be Taylor Martinez. I just think that he can challenge defenses and take pressure off of our crappy tackles in a different perhaps more effective way than DR.

Remains to be seen.

The offense needs a spark, and a duel threat QB can give the them exactly that. I think TJ has the potential to be effective with a full week of practice with more reps and knowing he'll be the starter. I worry about lack of game experience but if you're a true freshman QB and have to be thrown into the fire vs a B1G opponent, this is a good game to get your feet wet. If Dana and Rhule use his running skillset and put him in positions to not overwhelm him, we might be OK. We'll see what TJ's mental makeup is like too.

No. I realize that winning the turnover margin is important. Our weak schedule has helped with this also. I stand corrected on the sacks. Assumed that we had to be close to 5. But I bet if you look at just our Big 10 games it would be closer to 5.

25/27 sacks in big 10 play = 4.17 sacks per game.
5 interceptions in Big 10 play
10 TD passes in Big 10 play
3 Fumbles 1 lost all in big 10 play.
-87 yards rushing on the season.

I contend that 6 wins a this point is more about our team play, EJ, and our weak schedule than DR's prolific qb skills.

Hopefully this EFFECTIVELY makes my point.

That’s been a pleasant change from years past, where our qbs moved the ball down the field but turned it over way too often, especially during crunch time.

I think I’m just afraid that Lateef will put up more yards and points per game than DR, but also will turn the ball over more and it’s just a matter of the size of change in both of those categories.

You might be right. All we can do is watch it play out. I just don't see it being the disaster that some seem to think it will be. But I could be very wrong and Lateef could very well end up losing us games with turnovers and ineffective management.

I don't think that's the only requirement. As I said before. If we have great offensive line. DR is the guy all day long. But with the sieve we have at tackles. Some mobility might just help this offense be something more than just dependent on EJ and game management by our qb.
