Do you think TJ gives us a better chance to win than a healthy Dylan?

Does TJ Lateef give Nebraska a better chance to win than a healthy Dylan Raiola?

I think the reality is this staff is tied to Dylan. Even if he’s not the best option. Retained Unc as OL coach just to get him here. Spent however many million in NIL. They’re gonna ride or die with him, even if TJ is better. Which is unfortunate.

I predict if TJ plays well these last three games, he portals.
The beautiful thing about nil is none of the money is guaranteed beyond the current season.

It would be pretty easy to cut the Raiolas and move on.
Theres not even a ton of players that came here just for Raiola.

Meh I didn’t know the numbers so I just guessed. I just know Dylan’s going to be a lot more expensive than TJ.

Dylan will 100% be a better NFL prospect but if you’re trying to get a team to the next tier, I think TJs a better choice for the bang for your buck.

An extra $2-$3M buys quite a few lineman.
Dylan is an nfl prospect based on high school tape.
Nothing he’s done in college will excite NFL scouts and gms

I think the most likely scenario is that Dylan is the starter next year (you don't lose your starting job due to injury) and TJ will be deployed in certain situations/ goal line packages next year so he still gets on the field.

Anyone who doesn't think Dylan is back next year and TJ is the guy in 2027 doesn't understand how Rhule operates.
Raiola is the more pure talented qb. No question about that - problem is he needs time in the pocket to thrive - something our oline can’t provide.

And Raiola isn't going anywhere this off season. I imagine we are going to go big in the Portal for OL and a RB. EJ might leave for the NFL after this year and I don't think we have the pieces behind him without going shopping.

They talked way too much about the short week and travel in the pressers. Seemed like they didn't even practice.
Thought it was weird how they flew out to Maryland a day early and made it seem like it was this grand adventure. I know there’s a time change in there but it’s literally not even a three hour flight. Adds to the grind being on the road for an extra day.

The problem (good problem) is if lateef wins out. I doubt we can keep both qbs so Rhule will have to make a decision that will have huge ramifications - would hate to have to make that call

If Rhule has truly built the culture we all believe, neither QB is leaving for the 2026 season. TJ's comments about Dylan seem to suggest he knows that Dylan is the starter (when healthy). TJ also seems to be self aware enough that he knows 2027 is really his time to take over full time.

I think next year we'll see TJ in a lot of games for special packages/situations to keep him engaged.

Why are we so sure Lateef is loyal to N? Wasn’t this kid on the fence about shutting down his recruitment? And I don’t trust anyone who’s had CU as one of their finalist schools during the Deion years

He could've decided to redshirt and take the year off, but he's kept grinding and preparing himself for this opportunity. It doesn't mean he'll stay, but it does show maturity.

Worry about potential issues that may or may not happen or even be based on reality bc we need to stress.

Rhule's shown he's willing to make tough choices with longtime assistants (Saaterfield/Foley). He'll be willing to move on if TJ proves it these last three games.

Has nothing to do with culture anymore. That is out the window. Money is what these kids are chasing now. If TJ wins out, he is going to command some coin and NU isn't going to be able to keep both with the gaps we have to fill in the trenches. It sucks college football has been ruined by this, but if TJ wins out his stock is going to be ridiculous and someone is going to pay him.

Probably still have to pay the kid to keep him, right? He’s clearly good enough to go many places for good money.

I mean he's not gonna shit talk Dylan on national tv and say he's better and deserves to start. But I'd be disappointed if he DIDN'T feel that way. QBs need to be alpha dogs.

We are pushing the limits (in a good way) of what we can realistically retain for a QB room.

Raiola as a 5 star recruit and 2 year starter, 2 more years of eligibility
Lateef as an 4 star Elite 11 QB with a large offer list & looking ahead of the curve as a true freshman, 3 more years of eligibility
Dayton Raiola as a '26 commit - starting QB for one of the best HS teams in the nation with significant upside (people poo-poo his commitment, but if he wasn't so completely & obviously a Husker lock, his physical growth over the last year & a half & elite arm strength would have a lot of teams offering - they probably are already, he's just very low-key).
Trae Taylor as one of the top '27 QBs available
Jalyn Gramstad has been about the best possible guy we could hope for as a #3 QB the last 2 years, and while we've been fortunate to not have QB health issues prior to last week, having a high-floor safety valve allowed Haarberg to move to TE.
Marcos Davila (RS frosh) as a developmental prospect, 4 star HS guy & legit transfer that would be getting more chatter if he wasn't squeezed between Lateef & the incoming recruits

Longval & Soukup as depth guys that won't challenge for the starting spot, but help fill out some reliable roles as backups.

Gramstad is the only one of these guys who's automatically out next year - I'd love to see the 6 year sequence that involves retaining all these guys & having some of our very talented young guys/recruits sit for a couple years, but it's going to be next to impossible for us to not lose some very good QBs with modern CFB player movement.

Based on his comments and what we've heard on the board about NIL commitment. I don't think he's leaving. Seems like a pretty big culture guy.
I hope so. Raiola maybe? the better QB but I think Lateef and his skill set will be the better fit.

I'd also like to keep him because you never know how these guys come back from injury not as much physically as mentally. I think this is Raiola's first real injury that he has missed significant time it could mess with him or he could be just fine.

Will Raiola be ready for spring? Genuinely asking because I have no idea how long it takes to recover and be ready to practice. If so it should be an exciting spring.

If either one decides to transfer though it's going to come quickly because I believe there is only the one transfer window in January now unless something changed.

It’s fascinating to me how many people are doubling down on Dylan is DEFINITELY better than TJ. Dylan has great accuracy and arm talent, but he has bad pocket presence and almost no mobility. After Lateef’s performance this weekend, you have to at least wonder if he’s the better QB.
Maybe.. maybe not. All will be answered in the next three weeks young grasshopper
