Or football as they call it over there?

Premier League back this afternoon with a full slate tomorrow. I’ve been a super casual Everton supporter since back when Tim Howard played there (which is why I adopted them). Going to try to get more into it this season.

Everton are also the Nebraska football of English football. They have many league titles from years ago, had great success in the glory years, and have had more seasons in the top flight than anyone else. In recent years they’ve been downright awful, including just avoiding relegation on the final day of the season back in May. Much of their fall off has been due to internal dysfunction amongst the administrative brass. Sound familiar?

Anyway, wanted to see if anyone else will be following along. COYB!

I watch the big matches. Hard to get into it without having a “team.” I liked Liverpool growing up when Michael Owen was there

Evidence says otherwise

Yeah, that’s why I adopted Everton back then. Howard was the only American in the PL that was worth a damn at the time.

"Follow" is one way to put it. Yes, I follow.

The best show they used to have but I don't know if they do it anymore was when they took one fan from each team and put them in the booth to do color commentary for the matches. The self hate and self deprecating humor was off the charts because each of the small clubs have been through such tough years and the big clubs have their pains as well. It would be 90 minutes of each guy trashing their own club until a goal was scored and then they were the top club in the world for a brief moment.

If you like Everton you must be a masochist, which tracks since you are a Husker fan.

Right hand to God I became a casual Man City fan about 10 years ago when my little brother became a fan. I wasn’t into soccer much at that point and followed them loosely until a few years ago when my interest ramped up with my son being big into travel soccer.

Obviously last year was fun but losing Gundogan to Barcelona is going to suck.

As far as MLS I chose DC United when we moved to the area in July 2020. MLS games aren’t nearly as skilled/finessed when compared to PL games but they are still fun as hell to watch and go to.

Yes like I said bring an Everton fan is a LOT like being a Husker fan lol

oh it was an awesome experience. Messi was on the team. They beat Juventus (I think that’s what they were called). It’s crazy how rowdy the crowd got. I’ll try to find a video that I took
This post made me laugh, HG.

I think that might be the first time I've ever heard Barcelona fans described as "rowdy".

I wonder what you would think if you saw a club with actual hooligans.

Good on you for seeing Messi with Barca. You saw the best player ever possibly during the Barca golden age. We'll never see their like again. Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol, Suarez, Neymar, Pique, Abidal, Busquets, Alves.....god tier team.
