As per the UG Report and Premi Report, this is what I'm hoping occurs with the Busch to DC and defense moving forward.
#1. Based on those reports, it's most likely the defense was suffering from paralysis by analysis.
- Coaches do this shit to their players all of the time at one time or another. It basically comes down to the last man with the chalk mentality. As you want your players to have every tool and check possible to play every conceivable thing - or - be so detailed vs an opponent to shut them down.
The problem with this, is it's impossible. And all it basically does it make your players play so as shit. Where this shit works, the Pros. Or teams with highly experienced players within a system. Like we had last year...and were able to get away with it...for the most part. You still saw breakdowns, and that's what happens when you try and play this way.
If you really want to look into the complexities of defense, I'd suggest reading the Pass Coverage Glossary by Cameron Soran. There's a reason teams usually major in 1 shell or 2 shell defense. The complexities in coverage in the modern world are vast, just look at the Cov 1 section.
#2. So I'm hopefully they simplify shit down to a Mike Leach style call sheet, and focus on aligning correctly, simple rules for read and reaction, and just play fast. I guess we'll see on Saturday, but if the D looks noticeably better, I'm guessing that will be the cause. Because I don't think the talent disparity is that damn bad. It can't be....at least I hope.
