Dean's 3-2-1

Dean did say someone told him he'd be Top 5 Centers this year on the board after the season is over. Atleast that's how I read it on RSS.

Center is also a position where a player that is actually smart and can help read the defense and call blocks will make it in the NFL over a freak athlete idiot.

Much like how Will Compton lasted in the NFL for so many years despite him being short and slow as hell

Truth. Why I think he needs to stay another year, assuming Frost does his job and gets an upgraded OLine coach, to continue to perfect his craft. He probably sits as backup first few years in the league simply to learn as well.

Mizzou lists Zatcheka at 6'3" 271, which means he's probably 260 soaking wet. Maybe it makes sense to lament Frost and company not going and getting a guy who is comfortable playing center, but taking a dainty walk on ain't gonna change much on the OL in the near term

What round would Cam go in? Seems like a guy Scott could take hunting down in Gage County on his farm and get him to come back. Cam is a true Nebraskan... to me he has incredible NIL potential in rural Nebraska.

Probably day 2 of draft. He's had a good season and will test very well.

I wonder if NIL will dissuade some kids from leaving early when they are likely late round/FA type kids.

Has anyone from Nebraska actually made anything substantial in NIL where it's a real thought to keep it? Beyond the $5 Runza is paying them to post?

Would he even get drafted?

Idk why these kids leave early to be an undrafted free agent.

@slattimer what do you think?

I remember @alt f4 and @Faux Sean Callahan saying a few weeks back that he does have a solid chance to get drafted if he declared this year. Obviously even better grade if he stayed one more year and improved.

I'm guessing he'd put up freaky numbers at the combine/pro day and he'd garner enough attention to get a shot. Having a freaky athletic center is a luxury.
I was told he was a mid/late round pick based on athletic ability alone. The highest I was told was 2nd round grade.

Like Lat said, kid is a freak athletically. I mean we were pulling him to block OSU DE in pass pro. Very few centers can think about pulling let alone blocking those guys as well as he did.

I think you need to watch Tyler from Cockeye. If he declares for the NFL I think it is more likely he comes back.

The other thing that the NFL will like is he has a very high ceiling given how he has only played the spot 3 years.

Declaring early and will be a 2nd round to mid round pick?

That would put him in rarified air for recent Nebraska OL. Gonna do a quick look how long it has been since we had a 2nd round offensive lineman. (included the mid rounders drafted recently too)

Alex Lewis 4th round - 6 years prior

Spencer Long - 3rd round - 8 years prior

Alex Henry - 4th round - 11 years prior

Carl Nicks - 5th round - 14 years prior

Richie Incognito - 3rd round - 17 years prior

Toniu Fonoti - 2nd round - 20 years prior

Dominic Riola - 2nd round - 21 years prior

GUYS I THINK I FOUND OUT WHY WE HAVEN'T WON SHIT FOR 2 DECADES

NU Pipeline is as dead as the Keystone
😢

The scout I spoke to was pretty high on him and mentioned other scouts were starting to notice him more. I'm sure if he stuck around he'd be in that 2/3rd round type of guy. This year maybe a 4-6ish.

Name me an OLineman on the roster right now ready to efficiently replace Cam Jurgens at Center? That wouldn't be a significant drop off. Yeah he signed with Missouri.

I'm not hyping anyone up. The fact that our backup center is Trent Hixson is horrifying. Zatechka is a legacy center. You take that chance and hope he develops. That's all.

Something tells me that a walk on Missouri OL probably would be a significant drop off….? What basis is there to think Zatechka is going to develop other than his father’s name? Isn’t Isaac like a freshman this year?

I’m not saying you haven’t identified a problem, but your solution to all problems seems to be nostalgia for the 90s, which really makes no sense in a lot of contexts, including this one.

1st. You didn't name anyone on the current roster because there isn't anyone
2nd. If we would have an solid, confident, IDd backup center for when Cam declares, then I wouldn't care. But, we don't. And we passed on a kid that wanted to be here, is an actual true center, and could have grown into the role and stepped right in when Cam was ready to head out. And because we passed, freakin Trent Hixson is our "next man up". No nostalgia. But it is the reality of the situation. And yeah that chaps my ass.

I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that Trent Hixson would play over Isaac Zatechka so again, I really don’t understand your point or how a freshman, 265 lb walk on to Missouri is the solution here aside from, again, nostalgia for the 90s which you previously said were before your time
