Conference realignment isn't limited to the big boys, several moves were made by Nebraska high school teams as of July 1:

- and several new schools have opened and officially joined leagues: Lincoln Northwest has joined the Eastern Midlands Conference, while Omaha Buena Vista and Omaha Westview have joined the Metro Conference

===========================

Effective next year, on July 1, 2023, these moves will take place:

- Giltner will leave the Crossroads Conference for the Twin Valley Conference

How are conferences determined in Nebraska High School Sports and what is their actual benefit (districts seem to matter more than conference as far as which teams you play)? Do the schools have a say in it or does the NSAA decide?

Conferences are solely decided by the schools themselves. The state (NSAA) assigns teams to districts for postseason play, and those district assignments change from year to year. The NSAA also sets the regular season schedules for all the football teams in the state.......all other sports the schools are on their own to set their own schedules. Conference titles are for local bragging rights only......and those aren't really contested at all in football in the state, mostly because the state sets the schedule, so you often don't play a lot of "conference opponents" in season and there is a large mix of teams across different classifications within a single conference (11-man vs. 8-man included)

@Huskerbuck85 Jesus Christ other than Auburn this is a cake walk compared to when I played and certainly when you played.

These young Tigahs have no idea how easy they have it.

Good lord I’d take that all day long. When I was a senior we had maybe 40 kids out for football. 4 SENIORS!!! We played Auburn, Pius X, Blair, York, Beatrice, Waverly (I think) some shit school in Kansas and I’m not sure who else but we got beat up on.

So those schools in the league with Falls City, they don't necessarily play those schools in football since the state sets the schedule. But wow, oh wow, that is a tough schedule you listed.

Here is FC's 2023 schedule:

Platteview
at Fairbury
Omaha Concordia
at Boys Town
Syracuse
Nebraska City
at Lincoln Christian
Auburn
at Raymond Central

This is all new to me… I played Class A ball in Swimtown and I don’t ever remember hearing anything about “conference” games/standings, etc. not sure if it’s more of a WN thing?

There are no conference standings or championships anywhere in the state at any class in football. Conferences exist for everything but football.

Damn…too bad they can’t play those in their conference for a bit to see if their new coach is worth a shit. That’s still a tough schedule.
Yes ours was brutal in 2003.

That’s crazy that giltner is leaving the CRC. Back in my day (10ish years ago) the conference was stacked in every sport, boys and girls both and giltner was a power house. I know they have taken a step down but it’s weird they are leaving.

Sounds like they are leaving because they are against Exeter-Milligan co-oping with Friend for sports and participating as that co-op in the league.

The Tigahs were an independent for an awfully long time....they just joined this league within the last year or so.

Ahhh ok my mistake I thought it was like College where that’s your schedule for the most part.

I got to high school right as FC was mercifully pushed to C1 for football.

We went from getting raped by the teams @Huskerbuck85 listed to being at least competitive. (6-3 type seasons with a first round playoff loss, hey it’s better than going 1-7 or 0-8)

PS: I had 40 yards on 5 rushes (Fullback) and played every snap when we finally beat Auburn for the first time in 22 years.

Scoring a touchdown in a win against Auburn in 2005 on homecoming my junior year was probably the highlight of my high school football career. We HATED those fuckers.
