With the style of offense Nebraska wants to run they probably should be, but they must get a lot better or they will put a lot of pressure on the defense.I still think the defense can be a top 20 unit this year. Early season total defense numbers are usually distorted because many Power 5s are playing bad non con opponents. Nebraska is one of only seven Power 5 teams to have played only Power 5 opponents.
And while the 354 yards allowed per game may place them in the 70s currently. They are actually top 40 in yards per play allowed, top 40 in yards per pass attempt allowed and top 10 in run defense/ yards per carry. All those numbers are going to move up substantially as they add some non cons. Other total defense totals will come back to Earth, and Nebraska's number will get better.
Keep sacking the QB, keep making plays behind the line of scrimmage, keep stopping the run, keep limiting big pass plays and chunk plays. (I know CU got some but Nebraska won't face another QB and WR corp that good all season.)
As for San Diego State, is Brady Hoke planning on leaving? He is likely looking at another 9 or 10 win season.
