I realize the Tony White is the straw that stirs the drink on the defensive side, but I also think that Dvoracek has done a nice job with his linebackers. He has his guys playing well overall and has done good work helping the development of some players like Bullock, Gbayor, and Butler.

I'll be honest and say he was my least favorite hire of all the position coaches but he seems to be proving me wrong thus far.

I'm pleased with the development happening at all 3 levels. It appears that the DC and all 3 assistants work well together and have the defense improving. There is enough overlap between the DL and the LB and LB and DBs that the coordination and cooperation among them all has to be high to have success. White has the defense improving and the assistants working well together.

Defense next year looks like a top 20 unit as long as everyone returns aside from graduates. Development has been great and they're relatively young

I think this will be a pretty slow coaching cycle but if the San Diego St job opens they'll probably give Tony a look. I think they'll go offense at the HC spot given how bad they've been as a product but he's a pretty prominent guy with ties and bonafides

Wasn't the rumor that Hausman left because he had heard who the LB coach was going to be and didn't like it?

Dvoracek has knocked it out of the park so far. Rhule put together a young staff but guys like Dvoracek are making him look smart about it.

I'd agree with this. For once it seems like players are improving, they're getting non-starters playing time, and developing/building depth.

Such a refreshing change of pace from other defensive coaching staffs we've had - since probably Bo and Carl.

from game 1 in a new system they looked well-prepared and organized. no confusion with substitutions, no one looking lost before a play, no having to burn TOs

the only thing this defense is missing is a couple of difference makers in the front 7

I still think the defense can be a top 20 unit this year. Early season total defense numbers are usually distorted because many Power 5s are playing bad non con opponents. Nebraska is one of only seven Power 5 teams to have played only Power 5 opponents.

And while the 354 yards allowed per game may place them in the 70s currently. They are actually top 40 in yards per play allowed, top 40 in yards per pass attempt allowed and top 10 in run defense/ yards per carry. All those numbers are going to move up substantially as they add some non cons. Other total defense totals will come back to Earth, and Nebraska's number will get better.

Keep sacking the QB, keep making plays behind the line of scrimmage, keep stopping the run, keep limiting big pass plays and chunk plays. (I know CU got some but Nebraska won't face another QB and WR corp that good all season.)

As for San Diego State, is Brady Hoke planning on leaving? He is likely looking at another 9 or 10 win season.

White has been impressive. And he has gotten some of the younger players like Princewell & Lenhart playing productively Thats a big jump but I like what I'm seeing from them. Even Bullock just moving from Safety to Linebacker he ahs been able to contribute.

I think the defense has been lights out so far. If I had 2 criticisms of the defense it would be that I would like to see them get some more takeaways and maybe be a little better at getting off the field on 3rd down(3rd and long specifically).

His seat is pretty hot. Administration over there knows they bungled conference realignment and they've had really bad attendance coupled with their new stadium opening that they mortgaged they need something fresh.

If he wins 9 games sure, but if they drop a couple winnable mountain west games he's probably gone. They've had one of the most unwatchable brands of football in the country under him and they can't really afford to win 7 games a year without eyeballs.

Their fans really want Kliff Kingsbury lol.

Playing the schedule game - they could drop four straight (UCLA, Oregon State, Boise, Air Force). Could cut bait after the air force game

Quick glance at their message board and I've already seen Tony's name twice in two threads

Yeah McGuire gets the headlines because he looks and sounds like he's 13 (McKewon even wrote that he would be a head coach someday...), but Dvoracek is in his 20s too, right?

I know McGuire doesn't have much talent to work with right now, but LBs look great. Maybe Dvoracek is the wunderkind here.

the one negative I have heard on Dvoracek is that he is not a great recruiter

Good point.

You "might".....and I said "might" be able to say that about the offense to a degree - once the end of season rolls around.

I can't imagine there were a lot of P5 schools that opened with 2 consecutive P5 schools - ON THE ROAD.

CU started with 2 P5 schools, but didn't have to play two consecutive road games.

Maybe, but it's at worst unproven, before Nebraska his only 2 years as an eligible recruiter was at Lehigh, one of them being the Covid year, obviously a completely different situation.

Could be true, but I don't think it could definitively be proven at this point. Probably doesn't have a lot of good recruiting contacts with his background.
