CFB Playoff Expansion

I prefer a 14 team field where we have a play-in to the 14 teams. Either give B1G and SEC the advantage with 4 teams, and ACC and B12 2 each, or all P4 get three teams in.

Kill conference championship games and replace with the play-ins.
- 1 seed after regular season is in
- 2 plays 5, 3 plays 4, winners are in
- 2 at large teams that aren’t P4

Effectively this is a 22 team playoff where CCG weekend becomes play-in/round 1.

Why I’m big on this is because the CCG’s became pointless this year. Bama gets destroyed, they don’t drop. OSU loses, they fall 1 spot only flipping with Indiana. BYU loses, for some reason they do drop which means Miami and Notre Dame are touching, and then Miami gets in. So, yes, Miami jumps up two spots in a bye week for them, leaping a CCG participant and another team on bye.

The shenanigans of the committee need to be eliminated. They can decide who the last two teams in are and the seeding, but they don’t get a say in the other 12 teams.

Feel like it’s fine where it’s at but it def will expand with how greedy they are. Just gives teams that shit the bed in the reg season too much wiggle room. Texas would have got crazy rewarded in this format. Would’ve got Texas tech then Oregon or BYU. Just don’t see how rewarding a season like Texas brings any value to the sport.

All three “P4” getting three will never happen. B1G nor SEC would allow it.

The change of that is the case is B10 and SEC have their top two teams in and play-ins are 3 v 6 and 4 v 5.

ACC and B12 get 1 in and only one play-in of 2 v 3.
I get this is where it is headed but who the fuck wants this. Who really wants to see Cockeye or whatever underperforming 6th team in the SEC play for a chance to go the playoff.

Hot take but the playoff should be contracted not expanded. Tell G5 and independents to get fucked and let the P4 conference champs duke it out. The regular season and conference championships mean nothing right now, and this also removes all human bias from the equation. In a perfect world you could include a wildcard-type system as well but you can't really do it objectively.

Don’t really think contraction is on the table when a 10 seed made the title game.

If anything, it’s being proven out that expansion creates a greater number of competitive teams.

Just cause you can win the title doesn’t mean you should have the right to play for it.

24 teams would be pretty much stupid. Whatever they do, make it so there's no byes, those are a HUGE disadvantage. The highest seeded teams are 1-7 the last two years

64 teams is the way to go as outlined by Mike Leach

A poster here laid it out in another thread as well forgot who that was tho

The byes would be an advantage if they did it like the nfl and only had one week off.
Agreed, but I can't see that happening. If they did then yes, keep them. But in the current schedule they're awful
