New market valuations from CNBC are out. Pretty telling of how big business CFB has really become.

Some notes:
  • Nebraska checks in at #10 (respectable)...but it's part of this that makes me annoyed when people say, "We can afford to compete with the big boys" we are still a very big player.
  • Texas is in it's own league (no shock). They just have no meaningful financial limits lol
  • The top 11 are 5 SEC, 5 B1G and Independent Notre Dame (refuse to call them ACC)
  • In the top 30 are 13 SEC, 12 B1G and 4 ACC (5 if you count ND)
  • The first B12 team checks in at #39 (Kansas).
  • The Pac-12 teams are 61 and 67 (just ahead of 69 SDSU for the Mountain West)
  • There's 16 teams bringing over $200M, insane...obviously no other conference is going to be able to compete with that long term

What should be amazing to everyone is there is one school in the top 15 that hasn’t looked like any of the others on the field/basketball court in the last 15 years. Yet here we sit ahead of freaking Oklahoma, Penn State, Oregon, Wisconsin, etc. IF this mother ever gets rolling again, watch out.

I understand the frustration with baseball and the comments in that thread. However, football is it. Nebraska football is it. People want to associate with a winner and if this program gets rolling corporate money will roll with it because there is a following. The attitude of a majority of the population, and I would argue the performance of the economy to some degree, in the State of Nebraska, is heavily tied to Nebraska football and it’s on-field success. It’s THE game in town and THE one thing that is culturally relevant to outsiders, when good.

The passion remains and hopefully, the wins start to come in greater quantities to get this locomotive moving. All the fan passion can now legally help the program win via directly paying players. If the wins come, the fan obsession will monetize at much higher levels which will make this place one of the most desirable places to play college football. Geography has never been less important in college football recruiting than it is now. FFS, it’s been largely a top 25 destination for players despite wandering in the wilderness for ages. Do not underestimate the potential of this place. Rhule isn’t blowing smoke when he pounds the podium about. I truly believe he sees it and hopes to get it there.

As I believe Mickey said once, “they don’t want this motherfucker to wake up”

Totally agree. It'll boost so many other areas of the program, university, city of Lincoln, state of Nebraska, enrollment.

Travel a bit and you'll see how many shitholes and much smaller college towns exist...along with bigger. Lincoln may not be in close proximity to gobs of talent, but it's not nearly what some make it out to be.

Thanks for sharing @SlumpBuster
