Official visit to Nebraska was perfect for DB Callen Barta

During a recent summer camp at Nebraska, Topeka (Kans.) Seaman defensive back Callen Barta was a standout in Lincoln. Nebraska liked the athletic 6-foot-2 and 180-pound Barta and set up an official visit with him. Barta was back in Lincoln this weekend, filling the gaps from the camp to the limited tour with everything else he needed to make a decision and commit to Nebraska possibly.

“I got to see what Lincoln, Nebraska was like,” Barta said. “I loved it. I got to experience all of the culture and brotherhood that is down there. I was there for two days and I felt like I was a part of that brotherhood.

“When I was handing out with the players I could tell they’re more than just football teammates. They are family down there and I love it.”

Callen Barta heard about the team being a family in Nebraska

Barta hung out with a trio of Nebraska defensive backs this weekend. He got an excellent perspective for how things are in Lincoln now with Matt Rhule as the head coach.

“My player-host was Dwight Bootle and I got to meet Syncere Safeeullah and Corey Collier. They told me playing for coach Rhule is amazing. Rhule and his coaching staff have a connection with the players that no one else has. They said it’s a real family in Nebraska.”

There was also an opportunity for Barta to catch up with the Nebraska coaching staff, including the head coach. The Nebraska staff told Barta where they could see him playing for them in the secondary.

“I had a talk with Nebraska about my recruitment,” Barta said. “I spoke with coach Rhule and coach Cooper. I think that they want me as a cornerback, but coach Cooper said that he wants athletes back there and his guys are very versatile in the secondary.

“I sat down with coach Cooper and he broke down the basic idea of the defense. But, coach Coop just told me what he expects out of me playing on the defensive side of the ball at Nebraska.”

Weekend was perfect; Barta to return home and discuss things with his family

The weekend was perfect for Barta. The people on Barta’s visit were the best part of the official visit, according to him.

“I would rate the visit a “10”,” Barta said.

“The best part about my visit was meeting all of the coaching staff, players, and creating a bond with them.”

Barta is on his way back home to spend time with family, and he plans to discuss his recruiting with them and determine the next steps. “I am just going to discuss things with my family regarding other visits.”

They could pry take as many as 4-5 DBs looking at who might be gone after this year. Hard to tell how many we’ve taken because some of the guys could play multiple spots. Gradney is not solid either. Probably a couple spots left.

What do you mean by gradney isn’t solid? Like he is looking elsewhere, or he might play another position?

He has told some of the local recruiting analysts his recruitment is still open and he is taking other visits
