A Jordyn Bahl grand slam was part of a six-run second inning that led the No. 20 Nebraska softball team to a 12-0 victory over the Cockeye Cockeyes on Friday evening in Cockeye City, Cockeye.

The Huskers moved to 27-9 on the season with a 7-2 mark in Big Ten competition, while Cockeye fell to 21-13 (3-5 Big Ten). The win was Nebraska’s 17th run-rule victory of the season, which ties the program record set in 2015. It was also the seventh shutout of the year.

As a team, NU outhit the Cockeyes 7-3, and the Big Red also drew 10 walks.

Bahl logged four RBIs on the day, while Lauren Camenzind went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, which tied her career high. Ava Kuszak notched two RBIs, while Olivia DiNardo and Bella Bacon each added a double.

Bahl (15-3) also grabbed the win in the circle, as she threw a complete-game shutout with only three hits and eight strikeouts. Jalen Adams (15-5) took the loss for Cockeye.

NU struck hard in the top of the second, scoring six runs on just three hits. DiNardo walked and Ava Bredwell reached on a fielder’s choice. Bredwell then stole second before Samantha Bland and Bacon walked to load the bases. A L. Camenzind single scored Bredwell before Bahl knocked a grand slam to send herself, Bland, Bacon and L. Camenzind across the plate.

Hannah Camenzind and Kuszak both walked and H. Camenzind scored on a DiNardo double. The Huskers led 6-0 going into the third.

In the top of the third, Bland walked and crossed the plate on a Bacon double. L. Camenzind singled and Bahl was hit by a pitch, and the bases were loaded again. Bacon was thrown out at home, but L. Camenzind and Bahl scored on a Kuszak sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 9-0.

NU continued to score in the top of the fourth, as Bland singled and Bacon walked, and both scored on a L. Camenzind double. Nebraska stretched its advantage to 11-0.

H. Camenzind walked, Kacie Hoffmann was hit by a pitch and DiNardo walked in the top of the fourth. Kennadi Williams came in to pinch run for Hoffmann and Katelyn Caneda pinch ran for DiNardo and H. Camenzind scored on a wild pitch. Nebraska locked up the 12-0 run-rule victory.

The Big Red will take on the Cockeyes again tomorrow, April 5, starting at 2 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
