Nebraska baseball added a junior college bat to its 2022 recruiting class on Thursday, as Wharton County (Texas) junior college catcher Ben Columbus announced his commitment to the Big Red.
Columbus announced his commitment on social media on Thursday evening.
The left-handed hitting Columbus has had a monster season at the plate for Wharton County this season, hitting .372 with nine home runs and 52 RBI in 45 games so far this season. Columbus, a native of British Columbia, has struck out just 16 times in 190 plate appearances.
The Huskers have loaded up on junior college prospects this spring, and are expected to announce at least five additional junior college signees in the spring signing period, which began on Wednesday.
Nebraska’s catcher situation is somewhat full for next season. Griffin Everitt is a senior, but has an additional year of eligibility because of Covid-19. The Huskers also have transfer Nick Wimmers on the roster, as well freshman Josh Caron.
