- WR is "deep" - probably grading on a curve given the names in that room.
Its still worst/bottom 2 room in the conference but its no longer comparable to akron's, so that's progress to themIf I was speaking to a Hawkeye fan and they tried to tell me their receiver room was "deep," I would laugh hysterically in that person's face. Cockeye's receivers are trash.
Their #1 receiver is Jacob Gill. He played 3 seasons at Northwestern before transferring to Cockeye in 2024. He's played 41 career games of college football. He has 606 receiving yards and 4 total touchdowns in those 41 career games. He has started 25 games in the Big Ten and only has 2 TDs vs. Big Ten opponents in his career.

Just like us for the past 7-8 years. They're deep in below average receivers.
We usually had one or two decent ones at least.Just like us for the past 7-8 years.
By the end of 2024 season, my assessment was NU had a bottom 3-4 of the conference WR room. I feel the potential is there for a top 3-4 of the b1g WR room now.Its still worst/bottom 2 room in the conference but its no longer comparable to akron's, so that's progress to them
I think what will determine it is whether the Jones, Smith, Clark tier of WRs are close to Hunter because they're as good as he is or whether he's close to them because he's as bad as they are.By the end of 2024 season, my assessment was NU had a bottom 3-4 of the conference WR room. Good news is there is a bunch of options for the #3 wr spot - Hunter, Jones, Smith, Clark, Bell, Bonner, Mills...I think what will determine it is whether the Jones, Smith, Clark tier of WRs are close to Hunter because they're as good as he is or whether he's close to them because he's as bad as they are.
Obviously the 1-2 of Key and Barney should be potent but having a 3 who can either abuse a nickel back or let Barney abuse a nickel back is a key
IMO, we've had a lot of receivers who'd have been good as the #2-4 guy in a complete offense, but not many #1s outside of Palmer.Absolutely. Outside of Toure and Palmer, Nebraska has had a bunch of pass catching scrubs. The Huskers have also had a couple of great athletes at receiver who also were head cases like Betts and Coleman.

Need more guys on this list
22 Kade Pieper, Norfolk, Nebraska native.
IIRC, Cockeye called Pieper within an hour of that game to offer him a scholarhip. They had seen enough. In December of 2022, Ainsworth was playing Norfolk Catholic in a holiday basketball tournament. Early in the game, Carter Nelson shoved his junk into Pieper's face by dunking over him. It was nasty and embarrassing. Nelson then proceeded to block the next 3 shots from Pieper. A few minutes later, Nelson was going up for a rebound on a Norfolk Catholic missed three pointer. Pieper undercut him and took out legs basically driving him all the way to the wall under the hoop.
No foul was called. This would've been a Flagrant 1 or 2 in college basketball, and it wasn't even whistled in this high school game. I honestly think both players were such rare small school Nebraska athletes that the ref was caught just watching instead of officiating.
The crowd which included people from a lot of towns, not just Ainsworth or Norfolk, booed like crazy. A small mouthy rancher kid from Ainsworth even got into Pieper's face after the play. Would've been 5'9 150 vs. 6'4 250.
My point here in this story is that Kade Pieper was getting embarrassed in that game. The kid is a piece of shit and he totally tried to fuck over Carter Nelson's life on purpose.
All Kirk needed to do was hear him say "White Power" out loud and the rest as they say... is historyIIRC, Cockeye called Pieper within an hour of that game to offer him a scholarhip. They had seen enough.
But they have a QB! As evidenced by this one pass:If I was speaking to a Hawkeye fan and they tried to tell me their receiver room was "deep," I would laugh hysterically in that person's face. Cockeye's receivers are trash.
