He was basically interviewing our table about moving to Nebraska and what it’s like here.

We asked him if he was a new NU coach and he said “no,” but acted weird about it (and could be technically true if nothing is official).

He kinda acted like his son was a recruit…..but we kinda led the convo that way after he said he wasn’t a new coach (his whole family was with him)……seems obvious that he’s in town considering a job for himself.

I know of him. He is the long time head coach at Arlington Martin. Pretty respected guy mostly because he wins at Arlington Martin which isn’t real easy.

But I’m pretty sure he’s older than Rhule. Not a real young guy. He has a big time recruit at Martin right now.

He’s 52…..so not exactly old, but like I said……in town with his entire family (wife, son, daughter) asking about best schools for the daughter to go to for cheerleading, academics and everything about Lincoln in general.

I’m guessing he’s our new WR/QB coach and his son will walk-on.

I guess LB is still open too? Don’t know enough to know which way to lean…..but this guy was SERIOUS about moving to Lincoln and probably spent 20min at our table asking questions.

Where'd you meet him?

If true this is the most random insider story ever!
Lol, well the story IS 100% true…..whether or not he’s going to take one of the coordinator positions is basically speculation on my part based on the convo and situation.

But it’d be pretty random for an east coast guy that spent 30 years in TX to suddenly consider moving to Lincoln, NE when his son is a senior in HS and his daughter has some years to go.

If he’s a position coach hire, it seems odd they'd wait to announce it. But sorta fits the mold for an analyst type role.

Just crazy that you happened upon this nugget. Not doubting you at all… it’s just crazy the odds of it happening.

Haha, wasn’t out searching for nugs at all…..but considering we live in Las Vegas and are just back for the holidays early because of scheduling makes it extremely unlikely.

Oh….and I’d also go WAY juicer if I was going to lie, FWIW.

I have no clue if Wager is an offensive or defensive guy. But generally if you bring in an offensive guy from the high school ranks to your on field staff, tight ends coach is where you start them . Why that is..less kids to coach while getting acclimated to the new life maybe? I dunno.

Joey McGuire was a defensive guy in HS. His first college job was TEs for Rhule at Baylor.

Jeff Traylors first college job? TEs at Texas

Yeah, this hire screams Analyst/QC type role to me (similar to Philip Simpson). Unless, as you said, we’re looking at him at TE and Satterfield is taking OC/QB now that Peetz is out.
