A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

I was a little disappointed with HBO for not going with their standard 2 Episode release on the premiere date. And I say that because episode 1 was pretty slow and didn't add a lot of set up.

But its meant to be a bit more comedic and light hearted. I thought they did a good job of laying that foundation.

Season is only 6 episodes, so I think they gotta milk it.

1: Casting is excellent. But HBO are the casting masters studio by a long stretch.

2: They literally shit on the GoT, HotD title sequences and music. Thier little way of saying this show is different than those.

3: There was zero mention of a certain family in episode 1. This should keep the casuals off the scent for a bit anyway.

4: I have no idea how they are gonna thread the needle of not revealing the result of the ending of HotD before HotD is even finished. Or do they even care since GoT Joffery spoiled everything anyway?

5: Since GRRM has written 3 novellas with Dunk & Egg and stated he wants 12 total, I know he'll probably never finish them. But, I hope that he can give us additional stories by way of this show.

6: Something strange that nobody realizes while watching GoT and HotD is that you are actually watching a tragedy. AKotSK is no different.

Those who have read the books

What order is the best to read?

I’ve seen several recommendations depending on how/what the focus is on

Should read them in order is what I heard.

I "read" Hedge Knight (the 1st) years ago and liked it.

edit: sorry thought you talking specifically about dunk and egg stories

Read them in the order they were released.

So start with A Game of Thrones.

The books are so much better than any show and contain clues to all the mysteries. He seriously spent decades leaving breadcrumbs the entire time. So many websites dedicated to unraveling them all were also fun to read.

I was a pretty avid reader as a younger teenager. I was one of those middle school aged boys who loved sports, but actually listened to teachers who recommended reading assignments.

But I remember developing a predjudice against books like Game of Thrones or any of those fantasy novels because of watching terrible movies like this one on TBS as a kid.

I honestly thought all those types of books were just as stupid.

Terrible? I loved the tits in that movie.

I watched on TBS, when I was 11 years-old. While I too was excited by the scantily clad chicks, I thought the stories were terrible.

So I naturally thought all those fantasy novels were going to be dumb.

Oh yeah, if you had a censored version it would have been terrible LOL.

Martin has shared outlines of each unwritten story he plans on writing. He's said that he has plans for 12 short stories with the last one being the tragedy at Summerhall. So, guessing they'll make at least 5 season's worth if the 3 seasons of published stories are a hit. If so, hoping the She Wolves of Winterfell makes the cut.
