9/11

I was in 4th grade and we did the opposite. We got sent out for a special recess while all the teachers were talking. I knew it couldn't be good because they let us play a lot longer than usual. We got out early and when I got home and turned the TV on I figured out what happened. I was glued to the TV the rest of the day.
I was in kindergarten. At first, we went into a lockdown in the library, It was the middle of the school and had the only TV in the building. I too didn't really understand why all the teachers were in shock. about 30 minutes later we all went outside for the rest of the morning. As soon as I got home, it was on the tv and my mom was in tears because she couldn't get ahold of my uncle who worked a block away.

Side note: There are a few documentaries where you can clearly see my uncle running away from the smoke.

I do remember getting let out early, forgot about that.

I remember another kid asking why we were having recess early and the teacher said there's been a terrorist attack and we don't know what to do. The kid just put his arms up and yelled "Yay a terrorist attack", obviously not knowing what that meant.

5th grader. Actually was missing school that day because we had an annual doctor's appointment at Children's in Omaha that day. Walked into the living room just in time to see the second plane hit. Spent the rest of the day on the interstate and in a hotel room taking in all the coverage me and my siblings could find. My mom was a single mom of 5, so it wasn't often me and my older sister, being the two oldest, got much close time with her. That night in the hotel room she made a point to have all 5 of us snuggled up on her bed with her.

It was without a doubt the most life changing day of my life time.

US History class...maybe Gov't class. Teacher was an officer in Army Reserve and as we watched news coverage he was wondering aloud who would've attacked us like that and was going through the possibilities (Russia, China, Iran, etc). Ended up meeting up with a friend after class and skipping the rest of the day.

I was watching Sports Center in my apartment before class my Junior year at OkState. I don't remember who was anchoring, but as they went to cut to commercial, they made a statement along the lines of, "We will keep you informed of the attacks happening across this great nation." I was like, "Um, what?" Switched it over to the news just before the first tower fell. I stayed in my apartment all day glued to the news.

7th Grade Homeroom at Fremont Middle School. Watched on the TV's in class. We had a 7th grade Football game that Tuesday afternoon that got cancelled.

Still feel like that was going to be my breakout game and Bin Laden took that from me. Never had a breakout game thanks to him.

I was in freshman English literature class. Was pissed that the teacher didn’t cancel class

On my way to work listening to Todd & Tyler (back when they were worth listening to) when the broadcast got switched over to whatever major news channel.

Senior year Biology class. It was a Tuesday, and we had a football game that day, which was odd, but we had 1 game on a Tuesday each year. We still played the game, and to make matters worse, both our QB and center (brothers) had a brother that died in one of the towers.

I was getting my butt wiped at the nursing home prepping for my 99th birthday when the CNA said - would you look at that?

Figured she meant my butt...but she said you dumb old bastard - "look at the television" - signed @HuskerDocCo

I was at work on the phone with a vendor. She was the person that informed me that the 1st tower was hit.

Later that day, Bush flew DIRECTLY over our office building in Omaha....at a very low elevation. There were a handful of us outside. Needless to say we did a triple take. That moment was surreal for me - signed @BIGSTICK67

I was at a 3 day meeting in Dana Point, CA in south Orange County. Went down to breakfast and the staff had brought televisions into the breakfast room. Around 1pm PDT they told everyone to go home as the rumor was a plane was heading for L.A.

The drive back to Newport Beach was about 30 miles on the 405 San Diego Freeway. I saw maybe 50 cars the whole trip on one of the busiest freeways in SoCal. End of the world kind of feel the entire drive. I'll never forget it.

I had a business partner whose brother was in the hotel next to the Twin Towers but he got out OK although covered with dust and other stuff that came down with the towers. He told me he didn't think he was going to die, he knew it. He said the eeriest part was none of the people he saw trying to get uptown were screaming or panicked, everybody just walked as fast as they could.
