We get 10 wins at least so you are going to be doing a lot of joyful shitting

Man I'll never forget when Nebraska fielded a decent 4-3 defense under Mark Banker and RSS had weekly threads about moving to the 3-4 because they thought it was easier to recruit hybrid athletic kids to be OLBs vs recruiting 4-3 DE's to rush the passer.

We've come full circle.
You just can't win with Husker Fans. We had a Top 30 ranked defense under Banker that was 4-3 based and they wanted a 3-4. Then Beautiful Bob & the 3-4 was forced on us and failed miserably. Fans then clamored for the 4-3 again.

These teams all were Top 25 defenses last season and we recruit at the same or a higher level than them. They run different systems but they work:
-Cockeye St
-Minnesota
-Houston
-Cockeye
-Utah
-Louisiana
-Air Force
-San Diego St
-North Carolina St
-Wisconsin
-Oklahoma St
-Cincinnati

To me it doesn't really matter what defense we run, it's all about coaching. You can be successful with just about any defense if you have good coaches. Same goes for Offense. Recruit the right players and coach them up. Scheme, game planning, recruiting and coaching. Coaching Matters, that's the bottom line.

I've never understood the thinking where instead of having two big DEs who can hold up against the run and bury the QB on passing plays you say let's take one out and put in another LB.
Your lack of understanding would be because you appear to be simple minded in your thinking here. Look at Wisconsin - they have consistently run a 3-4 and have been salty on D. In fact, our issues the past 3 years have not been because of our defensive scheme.

My uneducated guess is that the more exotic option looks are gone. I would hope they at least maintain an occasional zone read to keep defenses honest.
Whipple seems to know what he’s doing - I’m putting my faith in him until there’s no longer reason to do so.

I don’t get how wiscy can pump out linebackers to run the 3-4. I guess they also have an offense that keeps the D off the field.
I don't know shit about coaching a football defense. I read the articles, learn things through posts on here, listen to the announcers break stuff down, listen to Press Conferences..... the usual Fan Stuff. From my remedial learnings I like the versatility of the 3-4 for pass rushing. Feels like if you are creative with your schemes and personnel you can get pressure on the QB without needing Randy Gregory type talent rushing the passer. It seems like it is more multiple on pass rushing.

Bottom line for me is it's all coaching. How you teach, recruit and scheme. Exploit their weaknesses and hide yours.
