Looks like we were at 6.8 million last year on 10 assistants. Should see about a million come off the board after this year (before raises/potential new hires) by either hiring a regular TE coach or adding those duties to one of the existing staff.

Seeing Ron Brown's crazy low number on there & knowing Satt is very likely to move on either when his contract runs out or before, I'm wondering if there's consideration of moving Ron Brown over to TEs at that point. He's coached that group before with good success.

Brown would be good but I wonder if they just move Josh Martin back to TE. Martin also has ties to Texas.

Don't think it will be Brown or Martin. Either a new coach or Satterfield at a more appropriate contract.

I appreciate the message it sends to Barthel by not giving him a raise, but it’s also a bit frustrating.

If your coaches aren’t good enough for a raise, why are they good enough to keep around?

Yeah. We should probably write something into future contracts that says your salary is reduced to X if you lose your coordinator position.

Pretty much. A coach isn't going to sign a 2 or 3 year contract with a clause for a salary reduction. It's a guaranteed contract, x money for y years. No coach is going to sign a deal for x money for y years, unless we want to demote you, then it's will be for a lot less money.

Maybe. Just don't see it as a big deal as I can only think of one time it has ever mattered. Why would the school pay more if they think they would have to demote the coach later? It sure doesn't send a message of belief in the coach. I just don't see a school negotiating a higher salary to have a demotion clause.

I just listened to the Dean Sports Machine which this list originally came from and he said that was last years number and he expected the new number to be around $400k but on their list it says pending still.

Dean didn't really elaborate anymore than it was pending and he thought it would be around 400k. It might already be a done deal they just haven't announced it yet. Who knows though he could be gone tomorrow and Dean would come out with the old we knew it was happening but we couldn't say anything line. I'm fairly positive he will still be on staff though.
