2024-25 Nebraska Football Roster Attrition + Graduation

I kinda feel for the kid. I mean his last recruiting experience was non stop coaches calling and daily school visits by numerous universities that ended up with an NIL deal, but now he's staring at a room in Mantor Hall at UNK and a Sax's Pizza punch card.
Like Gary Sharp said, Hall peaked as a high school sophomore and probably wasn’t a Big Ten level player by the time he graduated. His commitment to NU caught the coaches by surprise.

They may have been surprised when he committed, but, at the same time, they were telling him to piss or get off the pot.

And I don't know if I would say that "peaked" is the right word. I think the hype started to get to him after his sophomore year. He started to believe how great he was and he lost a bit of his drive. Hopefully someone can get that back out of him or this portal experience is enough to humble him. Because he is still an elite athlete.

Watched a short video on X from an Alabama lineman who played there in 09 and he said there is a school in the playoffs (didn’t say which one) that is actively paying their players extra money to stay so they have enough players to practice with…… got me to thinking about the portal and tampering going on.
In my opinion this whole transfer portal and tampering issue isn’t going to get fixed until college sports in general completely lets go of the idea that it is still amateur and not some kind of “semi-professional” league where they can actually make contracts with players and some kind of bargaining agreement. I think that’s about the only way they can put some guardrails in place. Right now it seems the industry just doesn’t want to let go of the old ways of college football being amateur even though we have NIL and the coming revenue sharing. Unfortunately we aren’t going back to yesteryear, need to get with the times and accept what college sports have become.

You would assume that school is like SMU or Boise St right? You wouldn't think it'd be a B1G or SEC school. Or ND. ASU maybe?

The way things are right now, none would shock me. You would think schools like Ohio st or Oregon or even SMU (LOTS of oil $$ here) NIL money is easy to come by so players wouldn’t be so quick to jump in the portal but they could be using it against their current school to get more NIL $$ knowing that those schools have tons of NIL$$….. makes your head spin trying to think of all the scenarios.

I’m so sad about what has happened to college football.
I’m 51 and am finally one of those old guys who remembers it being better in the olden days.
Growing up I never believed the old codgers who complained like that. Turns out they were probably right.
