Jimari was okay but dude talked like he was a bad ass and I can’t remember him ever making a game changing play. Bunch of 6-6 or worse dudes chasing a bag. Go get some dudes that just want to fucking win and make plays.
He got banged up fairly early into the season. Just wasn’t durable on the dline but played hard. He’s going to go get paid for his 6th and final year.

You mean overpaid. He was geting paid to play for Nebraska.

I am a little suprised that LSU, Texas A&M and Florida State's D-line are in such need of help that they feel they need to pay Jamari Butler more than Nebraska was. (OK, maybe I'd buy FSU is that desparate). Or maybe it's really not about the money and he was just mad his DC and DL coaches left. After all, he did just commit to staying and Nebraska for a sixth year just a week or two ago.

Couldn’t grad transfers go in portal early? I think he’s technically been in it. Could be wrong.
Yes, grad transfers can enter any time. The windows are only for undergrads.

I know most fans are melting down about the 105 rule. But you'll never convince me having 30-40 guys who will never play taking up resources and practice time/reps is beneficial to the program. Does this make me a lib?
I tend to agree. And didn’t we upgrade the locker room recently to accommodate for larger roster size?

Ty Robinson was the only guy that ever talked and backed it up on the field. Nash was just a silent killer who played hurt this year. Jimari was a below average guy with a semi-high motor.

There's kind of an endless stream of people who were involved here for our glory days that talked about what an advantage it was, for a variety of reasons. First, you regularly got contributors out of that group (especially by their junior/senior seasons). Second, you got live, active, energetic bodies to run scout team, to give full effort against the top teams, and keep them sharp. Third, you had guys on that group 100% bought in & holding the cultural standard of the team high, setting the expectation for effort.

When it was managed properly, it allowed us to actually get more & higher quality practice reps for our starters.

We're not in a major population area, don't have uniquely high amounts of money, and IMO we're not going to outperform other teams by basing our program on a model that relies on us doing things the exact same way as they do, in bigger states & with top-tier money around. Our edge is the statewide passion & near-universal fanaticism that doesn't exist in many other places, and we need to lean into that.

I don’t really understand why he’s getting paid.

Stats this season
UTEP - 1 tackle
Colorado - 2 tackle, 1 sack. 1 fumble reocvery
UNI - no stats
Illinois - 3 tackles
Purdue - 2 tackles, 1tfl
Rutgers - 1 tackle
Indiana - no stats
Ohio State - 5 tackles, 1 sack, 3 tfl
UCLA - 2 tackles
USC - 3 tackles, 1 tfl
Wisconsin - 2 tackles
Cockeye - 1 tackle

Is he going to parlay 1 game game vs a freshman backup from Ohio state into a payday.

He was doing nothing way more than being productive.

I agree. He’s not a huge loss, but enough potential that someone will probably pay him to fill in at a key position. I think for us, our resources were probably better spent elsewhere. I’m guessing we could have paid to keep him ala EJ if we wanted.

Looked back to last year. 5 of his 7.5 sacks came in a 3 game stretch last season vs Purdue, Northwestern and Illinois.

Three not good teams.

I get the not keeping him

I think a lot of portal stuff is based on traits rather than production, the productive guys are highly paid and hard to get(Caleb Downs, Judkins, etc). Butler/Umanmielen have premier size and athleticism for edge rusher, that alone will get them a team to pay them in p4
