To be clear - Sam being the answer means they apparently aren't, or hopefully has changed and WEREN'T is the right word, going after someone that's better. They are just saying, "he's the guy". We have a transfer portal that allows you to recruit over your mediocre players with higher level talent at a rate you've never been able to before.

I'm talking about him being the answer for NEXT season - we have time to do something about that but are choosing not to.

That's the thing that I, and it sounds like the roster, can't take.

Hopefully this isn't the "coaches son" treatment

If our coaches actually think Sam is a viable option as a starter next year, then we really do have to move on. That's a firable offense in itself.

Once Mcandrew is done he’s going to retire, at least that’s the last I heard. Hes got a special relationship with the kid since he coached the dad. That would also put mac around 65. He won’t move for another job at this point. His next move is to his home in AZ and to golf 36 a day

I just can't believe the staff would believe Sam is the answer next year. There's no way that's true. Sam does some nice things for this team, but if he's going to be a top guy we'll miss the B1G tournament again next year and Fred will be cleaning out his office. There's a place for Sam on a team that can win in the NCAA Tournament but that's as the 8th or 9th guy in the rotation.

Exactly. Hes a great role players that brings good energy and will hit from deep. But he also has a tendency to disrupt the flow of the offense and gets beat by size.

My biggest issue with him is he's NO threat to drive to the basket. Every time he drives he's looking to pass and everyone knows it so nobody is leaving their man to go pick him up (and opening up someone else). If he can learn a drive to the lane and hit a 7' jump shot or something, he could be way more effective. But if everyone knows you're going to pass, penetration doesn't do you much good.

Gerrod Lambrecht screwed over the players. Ralph Castner (AIM NIL) stepped in immediately to make all NIL payments that were owed to the players.

There's more to it than just Matty A, although he had his own issues. FTR, I never did like the dude when he was at NU.

People also have to remember, the last year Matty A was on the staff was the first full calendar year NIL was legal with the NCAA. (NIL approved July 2021, Matt fired March 2022 & I stand strong Turd had A LOT to do with the firing).

July 2021 = NIL allowed by NCAA

2021-2022 school year = ABM is NU's "only" NIL (Lambrecht)

Winter 2021 = AIM steps in to pay all hoops NIL contracts (Castner)

Fall 2022 = BRC publicly announces their NIL operations (Big Red Collective = Brown, Castner, Hickey, Petsick, Gerber, other former players, etc). BRC acquired AIM.

Fall 2022 = 1890 publicly announces their NIL operations (Peed's, Davison, Selig, Schott, etc)

*** Political fallout between BRC, 1890 & NU/Alberts. BRC couldn't get off the ground, and ended up not moving forward.

Williams had multiple offers to leave for more than he made in 2023-2024 & Fred asked 1890 to increase more than originally planned to keep him. He is the top NIL guy on our entire roster.

I was told the day after our Northwestern win that Juwan found out he's #4 on the team in NIL. And he called out Berke for not only missing that game, but staying (going back?) in Lincoln instead of traveling to Penn State. Interesting enough, Berke's paid more. Supposedly, this is all on some group chat amongst team members.

I remember thinking something was funny because Berke got hurt and the entire season kinda collapsed from there. I mean I thought he was a decent player but I didn't think it would be that bad.

Then of course when he came back he shot like 10% from the field lol
