21 head coaches were hired to new schools in 2018:

1. Jimbo Fisher, TAMU - 36-15
2. Chip Kelly, UCLA - 21-25
3. Scott Frost, Nebraska - Fired
4. Dan Mullen, Florida - Fired
5. Willie Taggart, Florida State - Fired
6. Joe Moorhead, Mississippi State - Fired
7. Chad Morris, Arkansas - Fired
8. Kevin Sumlin, Arizona - Fired
9. Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee - Fired
10. Steve Campbell, South Alabama - Fired
11. Sonny Dykes, SMU - 30-17 - now head coach at TCU
12. Mario Cristobal, Oregon - 35-13 - now head coach at Miami
13. Jonathan Smith, Oregon State - 19-28
14. Matt Luke, Ole Miss - Fired
15. Josh Heuel, UCF - 28-8 - now head coach at Tennessee

-13 P5 hires made, 9 have been fired, 3 remain with their same school, 1 made a (lateral?) move
-8 G5 hires made, 2 have been fired, 3 have losing records, 3 have upgraded to better schools
-Jimbo only coach still at same school with a winning record

Yep, I hit on this in another thread. It's not to make an excuse for Scott Frost but to point out that it was an exceptionally bad year. Why?
1) That was the first year of the early signing class so this group of coaches were further behind in recruiting than the normal coaching carousel

2) Covid in the 3 year of developing team

Again not an excuse for Frost. He made his bed. But still an interesting point.

I'd be interested to see this exercise for every year's coaching class (I don't expect OP to do it) but I'll fuck around some weekend and probably do it. Definitely having a point of reference for what the "typical" hit rate is for Coach hires would advance the discussion
