2009 Big 12 Championship Game

yeah i was on the sideline

NCAA rule 12 section 3 article 6 only allowed a review in this circumstance to correct "egregious errors" involving the time clock. I.e., if an "egregious error" had not occurred, then the play was not reviewable.

There was no signal from officials to stop the clock in real time, so the clock expired and the game was over. Then they decided to put it on replay frame by frame and found that it hit the railing in the stadium with 0.8 seconds left, called that "egregious", and put a second back on the clock.

Less than a second = not egregious. This is the hill I will die on.

Do officials keep their own time on the field also? I’ve seen this alluded to.

I'm not sure. As I understand it, the clock operator's time is the official time. One of the referees blew the whistle at just under 1 second. The clock operator when he heared the whistle then stopped the clock, but by the time that occurred, time had already expired.

Since time had expired, the only way to overturn the result is by official review, but by rule, the situation could only be reviewed if an egregious mistake had been made. But the clock operator had not made a mistake, let alone an egregious one. A fraction of a second had ticked off between the whistle and the stoppage of the clock. This is expected and happens on nearly every play.

The only issue I have with it is we know if it would have been the other way around, we aren’t getting the second. We can blame ourselves too. If Adi kicks the ball in bounds we never get to that point.

Mack Brown and Colt McCoy both lost their absolute fucking minds on the play we are talking about and should have never let this become a question. Any way you spin it on their side, this was 100% a large mistake that should have cost them the game.

When you look at the field goal on the next play, if I recall it was Dennard coming off the edge at an incredible rate and I think if he’s not thrown to the ground by the opening in his shoulder pads he blocks that kick.

I honestly was more pissed about the short kickoff and penalty that put TX in position to even kick a FG.

It should not have come down to them being in position to kick one.
Didn't he kick it out of bounds?
