If you're going to bitch about people bitching, please do it in another thread. Keep seeing this get bumped so I check to see if we've got news about potential replacements for Burninja and it's always someone bitching about the bitching.

Thanks,
So this is kind of like bitching about bitching, bitching?

Upping the game sir, well played.

There are way too many people on this board right now who seem to be sitting around waiting for any scrap of news they can spin negatively just so they can take another swing at Rhule.

It’s the same pattern every time: grab any scrap of information, rip it out of context, twist it into whatever Rhule sucks narrative they’ve already committed to, and then act like that’s “analysis.”

I'll bet a lot of these folks don’t even want him to succeed anymore. They’re rooting for failure because it validates the take they planted months ago. There’s no scenario where they’d ever admit they misread things, so they’ve dug in and now everything goes that perceived viewpoint.

They’ll keep trotting out the “I want Rhule to win” line, but come on — their posts say the exact opposite. If he actually does win, it nukes the whole doom‑and‑gloom persona they’ve built for themselves. Being “right” matters more to them than Nebraska actually getting better.

Oh, and let’s be honest — this place is way worse now than it ever was when Frost was churning out 3–5 win seasons. People were pissed back then, sure, but the nonstop doom posting and “the sky is falling” meltdowns weren’t even close to what we’re seeing now.

It’s honestly wild that Nebraska has gone to back-to-back bowl games, because you’d never know it from the way some people are melting down about the current coach. The outrage seems louder now than it ever was under the guy who couldn’t even sniff .500.

TL;DR:
A loud chunk of this board is just waiting for any news they can spin negative so they can trash Rhule. They twist everything to fit a narrative they committed to long ago, and at this point some of them want him to fail so they can be “right.” They’ll say they want him to win, but their posts say otherwise. And somehow, despite back-to-back bowl games, the doom and outrage are worse now than they ever were under Frost.
Nailed it.

Thanks,

I’m now going to bitch about people who are specifically bitching about people bitching about other people’s bitching.

there are a couple of programs with beau coup donor bucks for NIL (Indiana and TT) but most of the top programs are not trying to pull 15-20 contributors from the portal each year. You only do that when you have a lot of holes. It's generally cheaper NIL-wise to recruit and retain top people.
Too bad they just signed a tiny and not great recruiting class from the high school ranks

Rhule on the radio. Didn't want to start a new thread.

Rhule sheds more light on Ekeler

The speculation of Ekeler’s future at Nebraska took over the headlines this week. Rhule already spoke of Ekeler’s potential departure on the 365 Sports podcast earlier this week. That, however, didn’t stop the Husker head coach from reiterating his message.

“I’m grateful to Mike for what he did,” Rhule said. “I signed Mike. I brought Mike Ekeler here. He told me he wanted to be here in the state of Nebraska, that he’s from here. This is where he wanted to be. As I said the other day, during the middle of the year, we were really pleased with what happened…

“So we offered him a long-term extension to make him the first or second-highest-paid special teams coordinator in the country. That came from, even from Troy (Dannen). If he doesn’t want to be here, I mean, that is what it is. I think this is a special place. I think this is a great place. But also think this is a place where you know how to get it done here. When there are a lot of people always looking at you, there are a lot of opinions.”

Rhule added, “That’s not my issue. That’s their issue. What I do appreciate is all the stuff (Ekeler) did. He’s a really good man, and he’s a really good coach. He’s taught me a great system.”

Spring game returns

The Huskers didn’t play a spring game last year due to the spring transfer portal window. It marked the first time since it was cancelled due to thunderstorms in 2012. However, that won’t be the case this year since the portal is a one-time two-week window in January.

Towards the end of his appearance, Rhule confirmed that Nebraska will play a spring game this year on March 28. NU will start spring ball earlier this year, beginning in late February, and take a week off during spring break as well.

“We’re going to go, and then we’re going to take a split at the spring break,” Rhule said. “We’re going to come back in the last week and have a spring game on (March) 28th, and my thought is that spring break week. We’re going to treat it like a bye week, so one bye week here next year…

“So, let the guys go for a week and come back that following Sunday, Monday, and say, ‘Hey, you have a week. You ready for the game on the 28th?’ I think baseball and softball play that day. I’m sure it’ll be on the Big Ten Network, so people can see kind of direction we’re heading and what we have.”

New-look QB room

Nebraska has been highly active in this year’s transfer portal cycle. From former Virginia and UNLV transfer quarterback Anthony Colandrea to the several linemen on both sides of the ball, NU has addressed several needs. Rhule appeared pumped. However, he raved the most about the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year joining the Big Red.

“When he touched the ball at Virginia, and when he touched the ball at UNLV, he was electric,” Rhule said of Colandrea. “I think that’s kind of what we need, like, for Dana to really go, be Dana Holgorsen. Let it rip, just to be aggressive. We need a playmaker. I felt that about Anthony, so we pivoted to Anthony.”

Meanwhile, 2023 Bellevue West graduate Daniel Kaelin will also rejoin the Huskers after spending last season at Virginia. Rhule always left the door open for the Nebraska native QB to return home.

“I have so much joy in my heart right now that Danny Kaelin is in this building, like he’s supposed to be a Husker,” Rhule said. “A lot of people, like, ‘Oh, I love Nebraska — love Nebraska — what Nebraska could do for them?’ Danny wants to be in Nebraska. When he left, I understood, and I told him, ‘If you ever want to come back, you can always come back.’ So, we right now have three guys in our building that started FBS games this year.”

Quick hits

***Rhule said defensive coordinator Rob Aurich will also coach the linebackers with Rob Dvoracek.

***Rhule said starting on Monday or Tuesday, when the transfer portal closes, he will “hit the road for old-school” high school recruiting.

***Rhule spoke of players like Nyziah Hunter and Vincent Shavers coming back as huge. He also confirmed Jacory Barney Jr. will return next season.

***The Husker football coach said NU has “one-to-two more” additions left to add to its portal class. After Rhule made that claim, Boston College defensive lineman Owen Stoudmirecommitted to Nebraska.

***Rhule said he was “fired up” to see the former Huskers transfer where they did.

He added that he’s “made calls” for return specialist/running back Kenneth Williams to find a new home.

***Rhule said Nebraska’s end-of-season flop “came down to coaching.”

He added, “It has to do with being better on the offensive and defensive lines.”

***Rhule confirmed that Kentucky offered quarterback Kenny Minchey “a blank check” after he committed to the Big Red.

***Rhule said quarterback TJ Lateef “didn’t find out on Twitter” about Colandrea and Kaelin coming to Nebraska.

He added, “TJ knew Anthony was coming here before he signed his new deal” to return next season.

***Rhule said Ceyair Wright “was really big” in UCLA wideout Kwazi Gilmer coming to Nebraska since they both grew up together.

***It’s been a surprise to many that the Huskers haven’t hosted a running back out of the transfer portal. Rhule said, “We like the running back room,” where it sits.

"For Dana to really be Dana Holgorsen, go let it rip and be aggressive..."

Been waiting to hear those words. I hope it works out that way. 🙏
This next season will really tell us a lot about what Dana wants to do on offense. He has an experienced playmaker at QB who can also run. There are no more handcuffs.

If we are going to be dog shit, I would much rather enjoy watching a dual threat runaround and make plays then watching the fat fuck show that we had before

I’m just hoping that the extra element to defend (legit QB running threat) will help us take the lid off the defense now and then. Would be nice to watch an offense that can score from anywhere on something other than a WR tunnel screen.

I don’t buy it. If that was the case then Dana would have left by now.

Would be a hilariously different philosophy than what history has shown.

Only reason Dana still is the OC is cause can't fire both OC and DC in same season. Well, maybe Pastor Matt could with his buyout.

Rhule has ran out of things to point to so it’s the new excuse. What happened to all that bring in a ton of young guys and develop? The young ones who did play were terrible. Rex, RVP, etc. Plus all the “good” development coaches were sent packing. It is what it is.
