You have to be impressed by the public relations master class.

1. Lots of negative publicity regarding the loss of your elite ST coach who oversaw the only competent phase of your team.

2. Quickly announce an even bigger piece of news: the hiring of a safeties coach (a position no one knew you were in the market for) from FCS.

3. Win the news cycle.

Especially after Rhule stated Addison Williams will be a part of the staff in 2026 right after firing Butler & Raiola.

Could be an analyst role. We can double or triple his SD pay.

He’s actually coaching for the Chargers right now as a coaching fellow

The Alex G. Spanos Coaching Fellow is
a program, often with the Los Angeles Chargers (formerly San Diego Chargers, owned by the late Alex G. Spanos), that provides emerging coaches with experience in the NFL, allowing them to work with established staff and learn professional football operations, with recent fellows including Justin Poindexter and Chuka Ndulue. It's a way for the Spanos family, owners of the Chargers, to support coaching development within the NFL, honoring the family's legacy.
Key Aspects:
  • Who it's for: Young coaches looking to break into the NFL or advance their careers.
  • What they do: Assist with practice drills, work with specific position groups, and learn from NFL coaches.
  • Associated Team: Primarily the Los Angeles Chargers, due to the Spanos family's ownership.
  • Examples: Justin Poindexter (RB coach, joined Chargers 2024) and Chuka Ndulue (DL coach, joined Chargers 2025) are recent examples.

I think this is part of the plan to hire coaches to teach technique to help the lead Assistant Coach by freeing up more time for recruiting . He was kind of a coaching intern with the with the Chargers this season.
