This kid has great hand/eye coordination from growing up catching submarine passes from his dad
So I wonder then if this a CYA or is he implying that Demond did this all behind his back without his knowledge? Both scenarios are definitely Bravo worthy.
My completely non-lawyer mind immediately went to his agent looked at the situation, realized that the kid is in clear breach of his contract, and didn’t want to sink on that ship.
Saw this is in the contract and I guess it’s in every big 10 players contract as the big 10 wrote the template to be used by all big 10 teams.
The liquidated damages if he transfers is they owe the school the entire unpaid amount.

I doubt that liquidated damages clause would hold up in court.
I am not sure what happened between Wilson and Kiffin. But the agent helped negotiate the deal. His client acted in bad faith. I am sure he wants to distance himself, or no one will want to do business with him. It's a business decision to stay in business.
The Big 10’s counsel obviously feels differently.
There aren’t any rules now that protect universities really. He signed a poorly worded contract that really can’t be enforced. So what do schools actually have to retain players?

But Desmond did willingly agree to it, and he (presumably) had access to competent advice from his agent. That makes it different from a lot of outrageous employer/employee situations in which you can argue some kind of coercion.
They’ll publicly posture and quietly settle.

you don't think his agent reviewed and commented on the agreement? There is likely a good argument it was bargained for given that the rumor is Desmond would have been one of the 2-3 highest paid guys in college football when he signed (i.e., he was willing to make departure onerous to get the payday).
