I know there’s going to be lots of teams in the market for guys on the lines but I absolutely do not want to hear about how there weren’t really guys available in the portal to improve them like years past. There are A LOT of options right now.
Totally agree. I have been saying for a few months that it was risky to take this "we are going to use the portal for 2026" approach because the portal was not good last year and really good players get locked up before they portal.
But the portal has a ton of options because the Big 12 and ACC can not keep up financially and because of all the coaching movement. Nebraska better spend and spend big this year in the portal.

Yeah. Hopefully they already have some dudes lined up on the lines aka tampering.
Sounds like Nebraska has been pretty active already. I think Pat Stewart is basically Tamperer-in-Chief now
I'm sure they will do their due diligence especially with the Lonnie connection. But they need tackles again (thanks Donnie) so they will have to work their connections.

This damn portal is a double edged sword…
Yes you can potentially bring in a very good (highly paid) player that can make you better, but you only have them for 1 or 2 years. So you’re right back to square one every year. Especially if you’re taking seniors with only one year of eligibility. You get stuck in a reset room cycle cause your freshman and sophomores won’t hang around and develop. They bounce to the 1st school that offers them a starting spot and get a check.
This doom cycle, where you pay more and more each year to reset that position or position group really isn’t conducive to building a cohesive offensive line. But I think I like Rhule’s response to this shit fest. Since there’s no longer a hard cap on staff members, hire 2-3 coaches for certain position groups. One coach to lead the unit and coach the kids up as fast as possible, another to croot his ass off and get us the best players possible.
The portal is fertile, but paying a couple million for a bust will really set you back, gotta nail your evals and then actually land’em. In today’s CFB I think coaching, motivating, teaching, organizing, HS recruiting, portal recruiting and all the other media and PR responsibilities are just too much for 1 person/coach to execute with maximum efficiency and effectiveness. At least that seems like the route Rhule is taking with some position groups. Hope it works.

As much as it seems I'm not a big portal guy I would rather develop the guys especially on the lines. I don't mind using the portal as much for the skills guys though.
Unfortunately it's a necessary evil especially for NU at this point where either you don't have the developmental guys or they are not ready.
For example look at the bowl game depth chart. Redshirt freshman Grant Brix and Preston Taumua are the backups at Left and Right tackle respectively. Not that I don't think they are good players but I don't think they are ready to be starters yet for next year. Corcoran is done, hopefully they can get Gottula back on track and Pritchett who seems to finally be hitting his stride.
Like many of us, I hate the direction CFB is going. (I say “going” like we’re not already there lol) But you can’t deny the success certain teams coaches have had using the portal for short term gains. Ohio State built their NC last year off of portal players. This year TT and Indiana are 24-1 combined and both in the playoffs. This new normal sucks donkey dick. And if you don’t suck the donkey dick you get left behind.
Please someone fix CFB.
Even with elite recruiting you can't win the national championship without going into the portal.
Dabo tried and basically his program has fallen a part.
The whole system sucks. But it's where we are at.
