That just doesn’t make any sense, every coach with a likelihood or certainty of making the playoffs either just signed an extension and/or already have a clearly better job. I guess you never say never in today’s CFB. But I can’t pick out even one coach from that pool of 15ish coaches (playoff contenders) that makes any sense taking the PSU job?

It could be a coordinator. It could also be Manny Diaz. Klatt even mentioned Deboer again today. Its probably the echo chamber, but there's so much smoke that he's not happy at Bama.

Deboer seems like exactly the kind of name that would only be considered a real candidate by hardcore Penn St fans who drastically overvalue how good that job is

I agree. I can't imagine that he would leave Bama for Penn State. Penn State is barely a top 20 job in my opinion. The pedo scandal looms large there... forever... as it should.

Roethisberger says Tomlin should go to Penn State. That would be the best case possible for them, imo.

siap
Best case for PSU, worst case for Tomlin.

I can't imagine being an NFL HC for this long and going down to the CFB circus. He could get another NFL job if the Steelers ever let him go.

It's at the point now where it's going to be even harder to hire a coach because they would be working for an AD who is a dead man walking.

They are probably thinking hard about hiring the interim for 2026 and starting the search for a new AD immediately

The amount of dudes that flipped just show it’s not come crazy job. Compare that to LSU where the #1 recruit was waiting in Lanes office for him. State clearly thought they were in that elite tier where they’re just a very good job. Along with a clown AD one of the worst searches since Tennessee.

In all honesty it is pretty wild that legitimately no significant candidates have taken this job. Zero, none.

Penn State when they're "down" is a very good job. Tons of potential.

Penn State when they're expecting you to come in and immediately make the playoff or you'll get fired is not a great job.
Certainly fair. I just tab most coaches in major college football as obsessive competitors, and I'm genuinely shocked at this point in time that not a single significant candidate, even a coordinator, wants to try their hand. At worst, you get fired and make generational money.

That’s why Matt Rhule would be the right fit for this AD. He’s Rhule’s best friend. If you’re going to go down, go down making your buddy extremely wealthy while not having to deal with someone you don’t like.
