That's kind of the level of candidate they're at now. Overachieving at historical dumpsters.
Fleck would be scary at PSU. He's kinda made for that place to be honest. A lot of similarities to Franklin personality wise, has thrived up north for his whole career, can recruit his ass off, and knows the B1G as well as anyone.

I've wondered why they haven't gone after him to be honest.

I don’t see how Fleck is really an improvement over Franklin. Definitely not someone PSU will be excited about, which would set him up to fail anyway.

I think they've gone down the list well passed "improvement" and are now around "not appreciably worse"
If you’re at that point, I think you try to find a coordinator or other assistant coach so you can sell the upside. It’s crazy to me that Hartline isn’t getting more of a look.

Baron is correct. Who, that they are discussing, is an improvement over Franklin? I don't believe Brohm nor Sitake are an improvement over Franklin. I don't think Brian Kelly is an improvement over Franklin. I don't believe Will Stein would've been an improvement over Franklin. Daboll wouldn't be an improvement over Franklin.

Improvement names even long shot mentioned would be DeBoer, that's it.

Hartline is still a gamble and unknown. Joe Brady would be a gamble and unknown. Insert any coordinator and it's an unknown gamble.

There may not be a coach who's status has benefited more by being fired than Franklin - the further out we get, the more people go "Holy shit - maybe he wasn't so bad..."
