This has to cost their AD his job right? How do you fire Franklin in the middle of the season and come out the carousel empty handed.
This is why I sometimes feel like the "fire everybody" crowd doesn't get it.

They just think, "Go out and hire a proven winner" well there's a couple things worthy of considering:

1) Proven winners usually get to pick where they go. If they have the (real or not) perception that you just fired a guy that was doing a pretty good job, they're not going to be interested unless you pay a surcharge and we don't have unlimited funds.

2) We should always consider where we are in the pecking order in that particular year. Let's say we fired Rhule this year (not too many are asking for that, but a few at least seem like it)...then not only are we fighting #1, but we're also probably behind PSU, Florida, LSU, and maybe even 1 or 2 more. So if there's 3-4 really good candidates out there, we're not only down the line, but we now have a perception that our AD will fire you even if you're doing a good job.

3) The fact that we haven't really been successful for 15-20 years (depending on how you measure success) also makes our job less and less attractive

The reality is you kind of have 2 options:
1) Hire lower level guys which can be a total crapshoot, but sometimes work out like Cig
2) Hire a guy who's been there and done that at the P4 level, but most of those come with baggage, rarely is it just "this guy has been successful wherever he's been"...in fact Rhule is probably at least somewhat that guy.

You can really f-up your program pretty hard if you don't time your firing correctly....and I know they struggled out the gate, but come on man, Franklin had them a biscuit away from playing for it all last year and he's overall had a GREAT tenure at PSU...even though he hasn't gotten them over the 'hump'

I think that is what Jimmy Sexton is aiming for by sabotaging him. They won’t have a choice if they have no good possibilities imo.
