Breaking JoBu Out

I realize it’s more important to absolve Dana rather than confront the idea that maybe he was a mistake, but if he is allowing himself to be hamstrung, at some point that is on him.

He’s a grown man and doesn’t need to accept a small fortune in payment to do his job in a way that he doesn’t believe in. He can find other places that will “let Dana be Dana.”

If he’s willing to do a shitty job because he likes the money and doesn’t want to rock the boat, then GTFO.
No desire to absolve Dana. However he has an excuse in that his QB changes 1/2 of his plays at the line of scrimmage and most of those plays end up FUBAR.

The one game I know that the QB didn't fuck up Dana's plays was @ UCLA and that was coincidentally the best called offensive game we had all season.

I do think Dana has lost a bit off his fastball. But he's a run-first OC. He runs great perimeter blocking schemes on runs and screens. I just need to see what he has for passing plays without the QB changing all his playcalls.

This is not a pro or anti Dana post....just that I don't have 10 games I can look at of his bc Dylan wrecked those games with his audibles. If he's gone now I'd be fine with it. If he's back that's fine too.

There's also the possibility that the game has passed him by and with $20+ million in the bank he's just not as motivated as he once was.

Iirc Rhule made a couple of comments this year talking about the coaches working long hours then added, except for Dana

I can buy that more than he’s running an offense he doesn’t believe in. But he also should not have given DR that much latitude, if this was the issue.

If they had a chance to land an elite DT prospect and turned it down for literally any reason other than he wanted to be able murder people at random on his off days, I'm out

It’s hilarious that people think Rhule hired Dana Holgorsen but then wouldn’t let him call games.

That might be the dumbest take going around the board. I can see him meddling in the defensive playcalling because he’s admitted he’s a defense guy. He’s not doing it on offense. People just want another thing to bitch about.

Cryin' Ryan Day hasn't coached defense a season of his life and he apparently chewed Jim Knowles ass last year about how he was using Downs which is part of the reason he left.

Thats to say I think there's a grain of truth to Rhule being involved in the offense and the defense. I don't think he micromanages that shit, but people acting like it's all delegation and Dana and Butler just do whatever is wacky

Not sure how PSU is supposed to compete with Crumbl, the widow of Levar Edwards, the ghost of Joseph Smith, and the cast of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Before the NIL thing happened, some Mormon donor paid for every single walk-on’s tuition for a few years.

in August 2021, all walk-on players on the BYU football team began receiving their tuition covered through a name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreement with Built Brands. The deal provides compensation comparable to the cost of tuition for each walk-on and includes social media promotions and other brand-related activities for the players.
  • The agreement: Built Brands, a sponsor of BYU athletics, entered into a multi-year NIL partnership with the entire football team.
    • Benefits for walk-ons: The agreement covers the cost of tuition for all walk-on players, who are those that do not receive a scholarship.
    • Requirements for players: In exchange, walk-on players are expected to participate in social media promotions and other brand-related activities with Built Brands.
    • Broader context: This deal was one of the first of its kind, where a sponsor provided compensation to cover the tuition for all walk-on players, but it is a business deal rather than a traditional scholarship.

Knowles is a pussy if he left because he got his ass ripped by the head coach.

I’m not sure I can be convinced that Rhule is getting so involved in the offense that it’s hindering it and systematically changing it (I know you’re not suggesting that). I don’t expect him to provide zero input but Holgorsen isn’t coming to Nebraska to then let Rhule turn it into a Satterfield offense.

I can't be convinced either.
