Yes, and the OWH had a front page editorial where the paper itself (not just some sportswriter) came out in favor of one more year of Frost.
The message boards were also full of the "we're so close" crowd.

I've watched their podcast a few times (not lately) and surprisingly they aren't all warm and fuzzy about Rhule. They don't come right out and say it but it feels like they have been waiting for the other shoe to drop so they can be more critical of him. I may have misinterpreted it, but it doesn't look like they and some of the other media are going to give Rhule the same grace they gave Frost.

Which is interesting because Rhule has told him that he watches their show. He's referenced things from their show so they know he watches. How often, who knows.
But they are critical of him knowing he watches, which I appreciate

Yeah they clearly were soft on Frost but that shouldn't be held against them for being reasonably critical of Rhule.

I appreciate that they have found their accountability balls, but I have no respect for any of them, given how much they let Frost slide. They're pathetic.

This is how I feel. I don't really want to hear any critiques of Rhule from people who couldn't criticize Frost for his entire tenure here.

I am starting to question Rhule, but the guy has 2x as many winning seasons in 3 shots at Nebraska as Frost has had in his entire fucking career.
It's very difficult to take criticisms of Rhule seriously from people that repeatedly - and loudly - excused Frost's tenure. if you can't trust their motivations, then it's hard to put any value on their critiques.

I do get the angst because we're not where I want/expected us to be yet either, but it is pretty ironic how the people who yelled the loudest during Frosty Days that only the bottom line of wins & losses mattered are now the ones most focused on things like margin of victory & roster composition when criticizing the incremental progress in W-L record under Rhule.

That's why it surprised me I guess with all their access I expected it to be all sunshine and rainbows over there with Dean. I don't know if something has happened behind the scenes for them to be that way or maybe they think they can get away with it more with Rhule.

Yeah, feels like Sipple is trying to correct for his mistakes in the past regime, but the pendulum is probably swinging too far.
This was his article before the Cockeye game in 2021 (granted that was the greatest 3-9 team of all time). All about how much fight Nebraska shows and how he respects them for that.

I’m definitely questioning Rhule at this point, but I can do that while still acknowledging that Nebraska finally has a stable foundation after the complete mess of the Frost era. Yes, I wish NU were further along in Year 3, but there’s no denying the progress since Rhule took over. That’s what makes it so frustrating with guys like Sipple and Dean—they openly mocked fans for wanting Frost gone, labeling us as “15%’ers,” while gaslighting the rest of the fanbase into thinking everything was fine.

My problem with guys like Sip is that I don't think it's a pendulum swinging because he's not trying to correct anything. He just has different standards for different guys.
He's like an "all politics all the time" guy who already has a narrative in mind and won't be discouraged by anything he might learn along the way.

I think Rhule is the ultimate media guy and sometimes you have to call it like you see it. Like the Minnesota game. They probably didn't say anything that Rhule wasn't saying himself.
I think as long as you don't step over into cheap shot territory then Rhule is gonna be fine with you.
Which is different than some coaches (like a Mike Gundy) who would flip out over very fair critiques. I think if it's fair and not personal -- and accurate -- then Rhule is going to be good with it.

Not making excuses for him but I do think the discourse has changed due to all the $$$ involved with the players now. I don't think the coaches feel they need to white knight for their players when the players are in some cases making $1m/yr.
So i think the scribes have changed their approach too. They make WAY less than the 21 yr olds they cover. The 21 yr old might make 20x-40x what the beat reporter is making. So I think some of them are like Fuck It, I'm calling this player out. And I think it's fair.
I think comparing what these guys said during Bill Callahan or Bo Pelini era is kind of useless. It's a different world now.
