We are good this year but not great. PSU might be a better matchup for us than Cockeye.
Indiana and Ohio State in a league of their own.
I’d like to see them single out run defense cause that’s not us

We shall see. Our run defense has improved. But it's far from perfect. If we can't score, they may be able to just grind it out on us for a 21-14 type of win. They looked pretty damn good against Indiana.Years from now, as College Football Coaches research how to build a football team, Penn State in 2025 will be the ultimate Case Study.
1. They have an Offensive Coordinator who's full resume of success always involved a Run first QB, not just a dual threat. He needs a QB who can execute the speed option and zone read. And yet, Drew Allar, a 6'5 statue, was their QB.
2. Their defensive strength is their pass rush, and yet teams weren't worried about that pass rush because Penn State can't score enough to make the pass rush dangerous.
3. Their receivers are really bad and that position truly became Franklin's Cryptonite. The following Husker opponents actually better at receiver:
- Cincinnati
- Michigan State
- Maryland
- Minnesota
- USC
- UCLA
Their run defense has been really bad this season. You can tell they thought every opponent would be playing catch up, and forced to throw the football. That clearly hasn't happened.
They run the ball well behind a good offensive line and solid running backs. But their defense is pedestrian outside of 3rd and long. And their pass catchers aren't concerning anyone in the league.
Improved compared to what? lolWe shall see. Our run defense has improved. But it's far from perfect. If we can't score, they may be able to just grind it out on us for a 21-14 type of win. They looked pretty damn good against Indiana.

Who should have knocked off the number 2 team in the nation on Saturday. What the fuck are you talking about? What the fuck are you talking about? I was discussing Penn State, the last place team in the Big Ten.
Compared to Michigan????? Where we were bleeding untouched runs into the endzone from 50 yards out! Remember that?Improved compared to what? lol

Im not going to argue against any of those points. I guess it depends on the mindset of PSU players. Because if it comes down to athletes. We lose! You might be right. They may be mentally broken, but It will be their last home game and for all of those seniors I would imagine that they will do everything they can to go out with a win against an average opponent on their home field.Indiana was down 2 starting linemen, their top 2 recievers, and 4 defensive starters. Penn State fought their ass off in kind of a last hurrah. Let's see where they are mentally at Michigan State. Because after losing that game to Indiana the way they did, I'm not sure a team that has already lost 6 games in a row comes back from that one.
But back to my original point:
Penn State was a poorly constructed team this season, and Franklin absolutely fucked it up. Because he's wasted a lot of talent on that offensive and defensive line.
I think PSU still beats MSU, but if they lose then they’re really going to be checked out. They still can get to a bowl game if they win out.Indiana was down 2 starting linemen, their top 2 recievers, and 4 defensive starters. Penn State fought their ass off in kind of a last hurrah. PSU is a good match up for us all things considered. Their backup QB is not really mobile.
Penn State is a winnable game. They still have a talented roster but what made them great last year were primarily 2 players - Tyler Warren and Abdul Carter. Without those 2 they went from great to good. Without Drew Allar they went from good to meh.
Combine that with their HC gone and losing streak and it provides an opportunity for NU to win there. I worry much more about Cockeye at home than PSU on the road.
Honestly I've already chalked the Cockeye game up as a loss. They are just too good along the lines. And as much as we hate to admit it, they have owned us for much of the century. Not saying that we can't beat them but history has not been kind as of late.Penn State is a winnable game. We're roughly 93rd in run defense and 3rd or 4th in pass defense, which makes us a slightly above-average defense in 2025. In 1975, we'd be a below-average defense.I’d like to see them single out run defense cause that’s not us
Co Worker who is a massive Cockeye says this is the first year he believes our ST is superior to theirs...he doesn't look at rankings, and he's almost always right at all things B1GI have only seen parts of two Cockeye games this year, but I’m still surprised to see that our ST efficiency is significantly better than Iowas.
We’re currently 2nd in the conference, 5th nationally.
I can’t remember when we last had even decent special teams.

Incredible turnaround on ST. We were in the 100s in ST Eff at start of season.I think ESPNs FPI counts special teams in their overall efficiency rankings. They’ve got us ranked at 36th. Which sounds about right.
