I think there's an element of "don't believe your own eyes, trust the experts" happening. It's hard to shake that initial perception you get from the star rankings, the hyped recruitment process, the other offers, etc.. But it's a little weird in this case because it's not like TJ is some walk-on nobody or a transfer portal reject. If Rhule has done his job in recruiting (which I feel he has in this case), there's no reason to think TJ couldn't be just as good if not better.

Just adds another wrinkle to what could fairly quickly become a bit of an awkward situation

That kid is good but he'd never see the field between Dylan, Lateef, and Trae Taylor. It'd be a wasted scholarship to satisfy the local idiots who think walk-ons and Nebraska boys are the only way to make Nebraska great again.

Coaches also see them every day in practice & trust Dylan more. Not like coaches never get that wrong, but it's low percentage.

I'm rooting for Lateef to ball out, & have said the whole time I think he'll be a very good QB, but also not jumping to massive conclusions about where things are right now after one game against a low-tier P4 team.

Unless the kid was never coming here, I don’t understand why he wasn’t recruited very hard.

It’s bold to think Dayton is better than him based on everything we know.

Marcos Davila (RS frosh) as a developmental prospect, 4 star HS guy & legit transfer that would be getting more chatter if he wasn't squeezed between Lateef & the incoming recruits

Longval & Soukup as depth guys that won't challenge for the starting spot, but help fill out some reliable roles as backups.

Gramstad is the only one of these guys who's automatically out next year - I'd love to see the 6 year sequence that involves retaining all these guys & having some of our very talented young guys/recruits sit for a couple years, but it's going to be next to impossible for us to not lose some very good QBs with modern CFB player movement.

I hate to say it because I think Dayton is a good QB but you go Raiola, Lateef, Taylor than Raiola, Raiola, Taylor if they can make it work.

I feel a little bad for Dayton he's finally out of his brother's shadow and doing well only to go right back into it. Personally unless Nebraska is his dream school and he's always wanted to play there I would be looking for other opportunities to play somewhere else. Because if all things stay the same and they are able to keep Lateef and Taylor he's not going to get much playing time at Nebraska.

Maybe. We'll see, but I go to all the games and have seen him make some incredible throws. I don't buy the "he's only a NE kid...".

Alabama doesn't really take those types of kids on scholarship. Think what you will.

I’ve seen enough of Dayton to know hes a D1 player, but I’ll leave it at that.

On Donovan, I don’t think he’s as bad as others do, but this next crop of up and comers needs to start showing up in the two places you mentioned. The fact that he has Corcoran looking like he belongs on the field at tackle is a major miracle in my mind. What he does with the kids he’s brought in over the next year or two is what will paint the rest of the picture for me. There is some talent there.

I can't disagree with this enough. There have been some throws that he's made that most quarterbacks cannot make.

Is overall game? Yeah there's definitely things to work on. But NFL scouts love talent that is unteachable.

To be honest, I really like what I’ve seen from Lateef to date. Huge upside and a more athletic, mobile presence in the pocket.

That said, we’re what….6-7 quarters into his FBS career, with the only FBS defenses he’s faced are the bottom two we’ll have faced all year. I’m not going to dismiss the fact that he’s legit, and will likely be our future. I think it’s premature to crown him today.

How can that opinion change? Lateef plays well and because of his play we win at Penn State and at home to close the regular season out against Cockeye. Both are better defenses than anything he’s seen, with Cockeye being ridiculously better. Both will have tape on what Holgorsen wants to do with him and what he’s comfortable with. Can he still win those games? Do that and I’ll seriously revisit, but at this point he’s just got me excited about the future.
