2026 was set to be a small class. Missing out on some big fish for this year combined with Trae Taylor's commitment lead to a plan to focus more on 2027 and fill needs via the portal.
I'm more curious as to how they're getting all of these dudes to campus. I get the small class thing but this is the highest level of foot traffic to Nebraska since Billy C was throat slashing at hillbillies

They can pay these guys NIL money to show up for visits, so that’s some of it if I had to guess.

Honestly Trae Taylor is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. He has developed tons of connections all over the country after years of 7v7 and camps.

I hope Donny hits the road, otherwise I hope we bring in a way better OL coach and move Donny to another role somewhere. He is by far our weakest link and you’re only as strong as your weakest link.

I really like Rhule, regarding Satt he has done a great job so far in his TE only role especially if he lands us Cooper and Ahmad. I just figured he didn’t want to stay here at NU with a 50% + reduction in salary, and with Barthel looking around last year I figured he would leave on his own.

Gosh, if Rhule can find a way to move Donnie on to another school/position, help him save some face publicly and keep DR and Dom fully on board that would be some legendary maneuvering.

So many moving parts and different egos and reputations to account for and massage. If Rhule could pull this off that would be pretty amazing. That being said I fully expect Donnie to be our OL coach next year. But one can dream I suppose…

Hey Dom, look your bro cost me my QB this year. Ay, so uh, look we can’t afford that again. Nor can Dylan have that again if he wants to play on sundays. So, uh we are gunna have don don move on. Sam Pittman is our new dude. Kapeesh? Good.

He's obviously has done a lot of work in the 2027 class but he's also connected to the top 2 recruits in the 2026 class with Odem and Mpouma and Miles as well.

He seems like a likable guy and recruits usually have positive things to say about him after visits. Maybe they can convince him to take a role in the personnel/recruiting department. It's done wonders for Keith Williams.

His son I believe. Would have to imagine he’s a heavy Washington lean if they want him.
he's pretty lightly recruited so far. He isn't even in the 247 database. In On3 they show offers from Tula, Idaho, Stetson, and Miss St.

Huard knows Rhule from his broadcasting days (including at least one Nebraska day). He quit broadcasting to coach his son's HS team. This is probably what led to the visit.

So we paying all these whippersnappers to visit or did we just skip talking to all the 2026 dudes to build relationships in 2027?

I think we’re basically skipping 2026 lol. Very young roster, not that many spots and will fill with the portal. It’s okay to have one smaller, not as strong class in the portal era. Will definitely need to fill some needs in the portal this year. 2027 is very exciting though. Future is bright.

Win these last three (including a ranked Cockeye team), win the bowl game and LFG into the future GBR NFM

The staff can croot. We are finally seeing what they can do when they build relationships from day one. In the first couple years with a new staff, you aren’t able to build those relationships from day one. Future is bright boys.

I hope the fans are patient enough to ride this out for a couple more years. Just need to keep progressing toward the 50% blue chip ratio.

That's just it. I love everything that's been said previously about how good this staff is at recruiting. But man....2027 means nothing at this point, if we have to go through 6-10 more "team" losses this season and the gauntlet next year before that class signs. Because the fan base will shit the pants before then, and the administration will be under immense pressure by the time we are done with all those losses.

There was a time when we could accept losses as long as the program trajectory was right. But I think those days are gone now. Immediate success expectations will crumble a foundation that has momentum. If we don't make some hard decisions on some current player in the trenches and upgrade them immediately, I'm not confident this 2027 class sticks around to come to fruitrition.
