Want any deer shot? I know a guy lol

Oddly enough, we haven't seen any deer yet. Lots of bald eagles and humming birds. I'll be interested to see turkeys milling around as well.

Finding myself wanting to drive to the cabin every night after work vs. going to my "real house"

That’s the life I’m jealous! Have fun and I’m sure it’ll turn out awesome

Wife wanted a house on the water for decades. I finally told her to stop shopping in the Ozarks and ponds in/around Omaha due to cost and location and I'd listen. Kids can visit whenever as it's 15 minutes from our home and their apartments in Omaha.

She's surprised I like the place so much. More work to do, but it's manageable with no infrastructure issues - just improvements. The work and clean-up are the rewarding parts. We're blessed with a screened in porch, beautiful river views and sunsets.

You can take the boy off the farm, but not the farm out of the boy. As Coach Rhule said...he wanted to stop enjoying life and wanted to start living life. Lots of wisdom in that statement.

I Purchased a skid loader in April to begin a side gig doing acreage work around the metro area. I've been using it a lot around my place. Haven't really gotten the ball rolling on the side work. Plan on retiring this May and starting my gig. If you need acreage work done... grading/repairing drives, tilling, mowing, removing brush etc... . Let me know. have to wait till winter/spring though sorry. To busy right now.

Skid loaders are fantastic for everything. Swiss Army Knife of small equipment.

Current project list:

Hall bathroom updates. Have a nice new vanity ready to install, currently picking out tile and paint to go with it. The previous owners replaced the copper pipe in the walls with PVC pipe coming up out of the floor, but they left the old copper pipes still sticking out of the walls. I want to cut out the old pipes and patch up the drywall.

Paint the living room. But that's underselling what all is going into it. Previously, there was that ugly old faux wood paneling on the lower 1/3 of the wall, with a chair rail above it. Tore that crap out. Above it, there was once wallpaper that the previous owners removed and then painted over. Problem is, they've apparently never heard of sandpaper. The residue of the old wallpaper adhesive was still there, and they just painted over it, leaving this godawful uneven texture all over the place. So I'm doing a skim coat of drywall mud on all the walls to smooth it out, then primer + paint. Also need to do some drywall repair in a few places (cracks + patching over an old outlet that used to house a connector for a rooftop TV antenna). Also tore down the old crown molding. 1970s crap, not nice historic stuff. You could stand in one spot and see some crown molding that was dark stained, some that was painted white, and just for good measure a little 18" strip of golden oak.

Yard work. There's been a big pile of mulch sitting in my front yard since spring, waiting for me to spread it. My wheelbarrow had a flat tire, and I haven't gotten around to patching it. I'm also doing some re-grading and trenching projects to improve drainage around the foundation. I also get water in my crawlspace when it rains a lot. I think the main intrusion point is around where the sewer pipe passes through the foundation, which isn't sealed very well. Going to try digging that up and fill the gap with hydraulic cement. Should probably spray for weeds one of these days, too.
